Most folks buy the kit of springs & try out different ones to see what works for them.

on both my SP101 and SRH, I found that one step down for both main spring and trigger return spring was a marked improvement. I didn't care to experiment with light strikes or timing issues by going too light. Lots of dry fire and reduced power springs combined have greatly improved both (as well as my trigger finger).

Order the shooters pack and you have a choice as others have said.
One step down in power for the hammer spring and the trigger return spring are where I ended up.
With the Redhawk one spring system I went with one step down and it was much improved.

The GP-101 was purchased new back in 1991 and has seen many rounds through it. It may need new springs just from the age and use.
The SP-101 was not fired much. I may take it apart and follow the link to polish/smooth rough edges on the trigger system and play around with the springs. I'll report back here.

Sounds like an excellent plan. As for the GP needing new springs from age & use. If it hasn't given any problems, it may not need a new spring.
As noted you will have to try the springs and see what works. The internals can be polished to allow use of a bit lighter spring. Also, the GP100 due to it having more leverage in the action can usually use a bit lighter mainspring.

I think 14# is factory. The 12# worked good in my 6" gp.

Ok, I followed this thread http://www.rugerforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=174100
And whilst doing so, replaced the hammer spring with a 9lb wolff spring, and changed out the trigger reset spring to the 8lb wolff spring.
Wow, what a difference ! I plan on going to the range next week and shooting various brands of ammo through it. I will bring tools and the 10lb hammer spring with me should I run into light strikes.
