Winter Solstice 2018

December 21. I always look forward to this day. I feel like it is reaching the turning point in winter - daylight increases going forward. I know there will be plenty of nasty weather yet ahead but at least there will be more daylight!

December 21, the first day of winter. As I have heard since I was a kid, "As the days lengthen, the cold strengthens".

Living in central New Mexico during this time of year is not bad weather wise. Come mid February the cold breaks a bit, bad weather is still possible for months to come but it is somewhat nice.

From now to June 21st, we're gaining daylight - and that's a good thing!

Well after the all day rain the day before it was a nice 63 degrees and sunny this morning for our first day of Winter in Central Va. !
Who knows what the next several months will bring since we had our 12+ inches of snow a week or so ago!!
On thing for sure...we DO get our 1-2 inch of rain every 5 days or so and nothing has really dried out since last Spring!

One of my favorite days of the year, for that very reason! Many of us in SoCal have been solar powered since long before the term involved electricity...

Outside without a jacket. First time in a while. 1530 and it is still 60 degrees. I would like to think that it would last. I know better. The lawn looks like a swamp after all the rain. If it had been snow it would have been up to your wallet. Each day is one day closer to Spring. Think of the glass being half full.

Trivia: At the equator every day of the year has 12 hours of daylight plus or minus a minute or two.

It was 59f and rainy in Buzzards Bay, MA. at 5PM Friday night. Unusually warm for the Solstice on Cape Cod.

I am looking forward to the days getting longer. The temperature hasn't been to horrible but it has been really windy. We have been getting a lot of rain about 2 days a week too. I'd like to see some dry weather just to give things a chance to soak in & run off.

Absolutely terrible weather here. Why it was only 80°F in the San Fernando Valley Wednesday. These brutal winters are hell I tell you. 8)
