AND today here in Tampa, Florida, TODAY, we have overcast, grey and foggy conditions !!

It's about 80 degrees here and humid in my part of Texas, so by calendar it's winter, but by temperature it's Spring.

37, cloudy, very little breeze. Average here is supposed to be 44. Yep, Winter is on the way. Snowblower has been pre-snow fired up. Haven't yet prepositioned it. PPPPPPP.

Wednesday was 60 degrees ad sunshine.
Had snow and icy roads yesterday.

Today it was almost 40 degrees, driveway melted off,
after I shoveled it off. :roll:

Current forecast says several days of around 30 and nights near 15.

If the 21st was the shortest day of the year and now the days are starting to get longer, shouldn't that be the middle of winter, not the start.

I'll say Welcome Winter.... thanks for the longer days to come. Daylight at 9:30am and dark at 4:30pm doesn't leave much time to get things done in the daylight. Also we've had several days of rain with temps in the upper-30s then dropping into the 20s at night making driving a nightmare. Another benefit of retirement - no early morning commute.

Lived in Hagerstown, MD in the 80's out in shirt sleeves one Christmas putting in a fence; of course then there was the year we had a blizzard and over 4 ft of snow.

In the 30s here in Virginia and supposed to plunge in next 1-2 days.

We live in Cedar City, SW Utah at 6,000 feet. We got our first good snow night before last, about 8"s.

It's because of seasonal temperature lag. The shortest day does receive the least solar heat but the temperature of the oceans takes a while longer to cool down allowing the overall temperature to drop. Same thing during the longest day, at that time the earth has cooled down and it takes the increasing solar heat to bring ocean temperatures back up.

Besides being the shortest it was close to the darkest with just a sliver of crescent that set early. Can’t wait for spring.

I ran the A/C yesterday, wore shorts and an tee shirt inside and out, but today's high is only suppose to hit 56.

They are the ones wearing Shorts, a Hawaiian shirt , Black Socks and Shiny black shoes.

18* and 2+" of snow this morning. I'm not complaining. Have been waiting impatiently for coyote hunting snow since Thanksgiving.

Hi,

One of my most unfavorite days of the year is the day we plunge ourselves into darkness with the switch back from Daylight Saving Time. One of my most favorite days is Dec. 21, because it's the shortest day of the year, and the next day the light starts coming back! Friday was noticeable brighter, too (in my solar powered mind, at least!)
