Winchester ammo

If you're referring to the Winchester bulk packs, my experience has been that it's better than the Remington bulk pack, but not as consistent as the Federal. For a slight step up in cost and a real step up in quality (consistent report, no FTF, smaller groups) the CCI Blazer is the most bang for the buck. To beat it, you have to go to match-quality ammo, which costs a whole bunch more.
Not long ago my brother and I and his buddy were out shooting. He has a walther P22. (neat little gun) It would jam about 2-3 times per mag! He kept saying it must be dirty... he was using winchester super x's in the bulk pack. I told him to try some of my CCI blazers, and just like that, it stopped jamming!
I dont buy winchester rimfire at all anymore since I had one blow up in my mark II 22/45.....

Winchester Power Point ammo is some of the better out tbere until you get into match quality ammo. It is a little pricey for just going to the range and blasting away a full brick in an afternoon though. But I am more interested in tiny groups than how fast I can put 10 rnds in the bull. I don't buy bulk anything from any manufacturer anymore. Every 22 I own shoots the PP ammo very accurately. So try a few boxes and you may be suprised...plus it is an awesome round for small game. It's all I use when hunting from the MkII's,10/22's,and the 77/22.

The XPert bulk stuff is spotty. I have a couple bolt rifles and revolvers that shoot it REALLY well. Some of my semiautos shoot it okay, others not so much. The last batch of it I bought had oversized bullets that gave me chambering problems that could have been downright dangerous in some guns. From now on I'll only shoot it in my few guns that REALLY like it, and I have a good supply on hand for that purpose. Prolly won't be buying any more of it for a LONG time.
Now, their Dynapoints, if you can find them, are fabulous. VERY accurate, very reliable, work in almost everything. Sadly, they now cost much more than other bulk ammos. If they were the same price as Fed Bulks and Rem GBs, and I could get all of them I wanted (which I've never been able to do in my area), I would probably never buy any other kind of ammo.

I've used the basic Winchester Super-X 40g, copper-washed LRN high velocity round in my MkIII 22/45 also without hesitation. The pistol ate them up and like a little kid with ice cream, asked for more.

I"ve never experienced any failures of Winchester/Olin or Remintion/UMC ammo. I"ve had dangerous overloads in Federal rimfire ammo and will not buy any more Federal rimfire ammo since by their responses to my inquiries, they finally owned up to their autoloading manufacturing-equipment problems. I'm not worried about the ammo hurting my rimfire Rugers...but I am worried about my eyes and hands when their ammo splits cases and discharges rounds in adjacent chambers in revolvers...those projectiles just barely missing my hand! :shock:

Winchester is not the best choice for autoloaders, in my experience. It just doesn't produce consistent recoil to operate the action. In non-autloaders it does ok. Around here, Walmart occasionally has 550 packs of Winchester Xpert hollow points for $13.00 and I use them in my Single Six and Henry lever action. Other than CCI, Remington Thunderbolts are my favorite LR's.

I have only had one picky ruger. It was a older mkII that had a valquartenzen tensioned upper on it and would malfunction with every kind of ammo except for the remington golden bullets that came in the plastic yellow box with the green label. It would run perfectly with that bullet and would hang up with any other bullet several times to a clip load. I tried every bullet I could find locally and the only bullet it would shoot was the remington's. Even the federal 550's would not shoot in it or the federal lightnings or the cci mini mags. Stingers messed up more than the others. I never liked the remington 22's and didn't use them until I found out that was the only bullet that pistol would shoot reliable with.

My 10/22 and Mk II love 'em during the warmer months. The 10/22's a bit looser than the Mk II and still likes 'em when it's cold. But down near freezing, the wax lube builds up on the feed ramp of the Mk II and has caused some FTFs. (It still loves the Wally World Federals, hot or cold.)
I'll try some Blazers next time it's really chilly and see if the few thousand rounds since their last trial has improved the Mk II's attitude about 'em!

I agree with the Winchester Power Points. They shoot well in all my .22's. and in my MKII competition are simply amazing! I'm down to my last brick. I looked at the tag and the $15.99 has an X thru it. Guess they were on sale :wink: I hope the new ones are up to the older ones.
