What makes a REALLY good day?

Yesterday I woke up to bright sunshine, no significant aches or pains, and enjoyed a couple of mugs of coffee while I educated, argued with, and appropriately insulted people on the internet. Then I took my two dogs for a two and a half mile walk on a quiet and mostly empty bike path. I came home, showered, ate lunch and then went out for a two hour ride on one of my motorcycles. Then my wife and I went to the soccer game of two of our young grandsons (they won, with one of the grandsons scoring a goal). We had a nice dinner, watched some TV and then I fell instantly asleep. All in all, it makes me realize that one does not have to do something special to make it a really, good day. This certainly was one of those, but of course had I won the lottery that would have been the cherry on top of this ice cream sundae! Even without the cherry, I don't think it really gets any better than the day I had yesterday.

At 81 I don't know how many more of those great days I have in me, but I will be grateful for any and all of them that come my way.

I ALWAYS have "a great day"; in fact to assure that statement remains true, I have a habit of looking in the bathroom mirror every morning and, after the initial shock, I say out loud: "Well this your opportunity to decide if it's gonna be a great day or a lousy day...!"
I ALWAYS pic "GREAT DAY".
A PERFECT DAY is a mid-afternoon nap on a GREAT DAY.... 😴

Good days come in all forms. I've been doing and having done by others, a number of projects around the house. Over the last week parts came in for several. So today I finished three (should be the last time I ever have to do them). So, I've got more cuts and scrapes on my hands. My shoulders ache and my low back hurts. But it was a great day. Why? Because I can still do these things. I have friends who have a hard time getting out of bed and two that can't get out of bed. I'll take as many days like this as I can get.

I watched the greatest baseball game yesterday on MLBTV, all due to Shohei Ohtani.
AB 6, Runs 4, Hits 6, 2B 2 (34), HR 3, (51), RBI 10 (120), TB 17
Increased MLB record for most HR/Steals in a season.
Broke Dodgers HR record for a season.
Broke Dodgers RBI record for a season.
This game allowed the DODGERS to get into the playoffs as well.
No one had ever gone 6-for-6 with three homers, five extra-base hits and two steals.
No one had ever had six hits, three homers and a stolen base.
No one had ever had three homers and two steals.
No one had ever had 17 total bases in a game in which they didn't go deep four times.
No one had ever had more than 11 total bases in a game in which they stole multiple bases.
No one had ever had a 10-RBIs game with even a single stolen base.
While I may not have had this great day that Shohei did, it made me feel great and thankful that I was fortunate enough to have watched it.
The season still have several more games to go and he can increase his records even more before it is over with. In fact, today, he had one more HR and a stolen base to go with it!
Greatest baseball player of all time!

Any day God chooses to let me wake up is a good day.

I get what Jeepnik is saying. We're in the midst of a kitchen remodel. Over the past couple days I moved the referigerator to its new location, installed an outlet wired directly to a breaker in the generator panel, hooked up the water feed, and installed a pantry cabinet and above fridge cabinets. It felt really good to get something major accomplished. Well, my knees are killing me but that's all good.

So, today we took a drive to the coast and I found a 1959 Single Six with a 9 1/2" barrel in 98% for $550. I didn't buy it but the owner is coming to my town in 2 weeks so all it will take is a call. I've got to decide if I really want it…

So yes- good days abound.

In a previous thread I talked about my opinion that one way you know you are really old is when you no longer want new things. At that point you have given up on life, and to some degree, just pass the days until you are dead. But when there are things you might want, like a new lever action 30/30 that I have been thinking about for months, then it means you are still looking forward to new experiences. And when you get that special something, whatever it may be, that can be another way to have a really good day. Just remember that when you fulfill a dream, it is critical to come up with a new dream right away.

I must be in BIG TROUBLE (as a very old man). I have absolutely everyTHING I could possibly desire and do not look forward to acquiring anything (new or old). Many years ago, I realized that within a few months (or maybe years) of buying some new thing that I desired, the joy wore off and it was off to the races again.....until I realized I was pushing that big stone up that big hill over and over.
I did pursue goodies over the years and now can sit back and just enjoy what I have each day. I need nothing but my good health now. IMHO of course.... we are all different (a GOOD THING).
