We got lots of rain here

As often happens, just when the crops are up and showing some hope , we get flooding. This time was considerably less than sometimes happens but still a significant loss. There's still time to re-plant if it dries up some next week.
On the other hand, I did have a fair amount of water come in the basement. As a result of some shifting a few years back due to extremely dry conditions, a noticeable crack showed up in the north basement wall. I've treated it with some of the paint on products which sort of work most of the time but not this time. In addition, I had to replace a sewer line last winter and due to the weather conditions, did not properly seal the pipe with the intention of getting Grandson(s) to open it up and seal it this spring. Silicon on the inside failed to hold back a torrent that ran in. Fortunately, that leak was within 12' of the floor drain and followed the built in channel rather than spread across the floor.
The downside was I had to move about 1/2 of the Y2K ammo stash to make sure the floor drain wasn't getting clogged. GEEZ, I'd forgotten how much "stuff" I'd stockpiled. On the other hand, if this "post COVID" rioting reaches the MidWest, I'm ready to rock and roll.

Might look into a product called Dammit (Not sure if I spelled that right) for the wall and the sewer line. Worked wonders when I was in the business-Dave

Doesn’t sound like fun. I’ve never understood why the Midwest housing has basements with all that rain. When we lived in Illinois, the only trouble we had with the house was because of the basement. Like sump pumps and cracks etc. all because of the rain.

Nobody in Dallas has a basement and I certainly don’t miss them at all.

I think we've averaged 3-5" a day for the last two weeks.... big oak trees are falling because the ground is nothing but mud....

It was supposed to not rain today according to the gubberment.... so I was rushing to throw what I needed in the van to run down and replace the chase pan on a house that I've had on my list for over a month.... finally got it in the back of my van and all of a sudden I heard this rumbling in the sky and realized it was getting dark... now it's pouring down again....

I saw yesterday that Chattanooga's rainfall is over 17" above normal so far this year. It doesn't effect us much because of the hilly terrain. So tragic for the flat areas of the country, though :(

And yet 70 miles NW of me is Midland Mi where the dams failed from too much rain!

Yeah. 10 days ago my Cousin who farms 50 miles away was complaining that his newly planted corn needed some rain at the same time that I was waiting on the wet spots to dry a bit. I warned him to be careful of what he wished for. A few days later he commented about standing water in the low spots. I pinched his toes a little when I reminded him he'd asked for rain.
I observed the damage this morning. Looks like 10-15% may be a total loss that will require re-plant if/when it dries enough to cross the field. One field access has been seriously damaged and one erosion control structure is in danger of imminent collapse--that's $3-4K in dozer work right there.

Seriously,, the weather is one thing we can always count on to confuse, upset, praise & enjoy,,, all depending upon what we need or don't need.
Last week,,, here at my house & immediate area,,,, we got 11" of rain in one day. All around our area, it was between 8" & 11" in that one day,, and it also rained for a few days,, stopped,,, and has been giving us light rain all week. Of course,, this was after several days of zero rain & folks were wishing for some rain.
I've always said that it would be great if God would give the farmers & such just the right amount of rain & sunshine necessary,, the rest of us could suffer worse weather.

Anytime an area gets 3" or more of rain in 24 hours, it isn't good. When there's 3-4x that much it's serious and reminds me of the monsoons of SE Asia. That takes me back to a place I don't like to go so it's a double whammy.

Chisel out that crack a bit use a hose get rid of dust and loose concrete then pack it with good Hydraulic cement ! It expands as it dries and will make the crack leak proof. ps

No, all because they were not installed correctly.
The waterproofing needs to be on the . . . outside . . . so the concrete stays dry.

Hey Mobuck my friend in Novelty was complaining about all the rain yesterday too.

They've had a bunch in past 3 or 4 days. We missed a lot of that here even though we're right close to you.

I think most or all of north MO got dumped on yesterday. Novelty has a unique topography due to the slightly rolling landscape. Not much fall so any significant amount of rain creates flooding for miles.

I DO WISH it would have several days of HEAVY down Pour on all the Cities currently being attacked by RIOTERS and LOOTERS.
