Here we go again . . . . . arghhh

this is exactly how politicians control law enforcement... officers have little to no say in the running or operations of departments. Just like any other job they take their orders from the boss(es) and they either carry them out or get reprimanded or terminated, just like most any other employee in the job market. If politicians control the administrators, then they control the force in its entirety, i.e. who gets hired, who gets what assignments, promoted, etc. - fact 🤷‍♂️ and the first one to make waves for whatever reason best have another job lined up 😖

I often wonder why in the world anyone would want to be in law enforcement. People are so "on edge" and any little thing can set them off. I've had friends on the police force and they all say what they dread most is a call to respond to a domestic violence situation. If they try to subdue the abuser the person being abused can turn on the police and things can go completely sideways. And then drugs can be involved and then any common sense can go out the window. Being a fire fighter is bad enough but being in law enforcement, no thanks.

Got fired in 2016 for trying to feed a homeless man.... was a sick joke and I suspect the last 10 years have been a trial for him.
I don't get what politicians have to do with this or the article..... splain it to me?

Blume, he fed a homeless person a dog :poop: sandwich. What kind of sick mind is that, especially for a police officer to do something like that.

That said, if he got some mental health treatment and got his mind back on track, then maybe, just maybe he is now ok. - maybe.

it was confirmed that he did that once and later alleged that he was involved in a separate incident involving a feces-like substance smeared in the only women's restroom at SAPD's bike patrol unit.
He then went to work for the Floresville Police Department in 2022, but that was short lived after the proverbial chit-hit-da-fan and they terminated him. Next, he went to work at the Benavides Police Department in 2023. Now, how someone with his background, along with no real supervisory experience, could be appointed police chief is a mystery to me. One that only a politician with a finger in the pie could answer I guess . . . . 😠

An acquaintance who had been a patrol officer with a large suburban department was offered a position of chief for a police department in a small city. Not a supervisor, not a sergeant, just a patrol officer.

well then per their "requirements, standards, needs and wants I guess he must have been qualified . . . . . 🤣🤣🤣

I've mentioned at times that I illegally carried a 1911 while livng in San rancisco. I applied for a permit as I was acting as a bodyguard for my Maternal Grandmother who was making fairly large deposits at the day and night bank a couple blocks away. here was also a beat cop who knew I was packing when she made her deposits and he kind of looked in another direction regarding my .45. He must have been a pretty good cop or had the right connections as he rose rapidly through the ranks and the last I I saw him he'd made captain. He asked if I was sill packing that .45 and I said no. I really wasn't as I was home on leave from the Air Force. We had a bit of small talk and then he said, "If I catch you carrying a concealed weapon tou will be doing some hard time. Seems the higher in rank he got the more anti-gun he beacme or maybe it's just that he was always like that. Guess I'll never know.

I was making a sick joke about a sick joke... but I still don't understand what the comment that he's what politicians want has to do with the story.... I can't see how this is political at all, just a guy who has or had a sick mind. Probably should be in prison ... in reference to a different discussion on this forum.

Politicians oversee/control all municipalities affairs, i.e. "they" hire, or at the very least have final approval over who gets hired as the chief of police.
As was the case here in the City of Benavides hired Luckhurst as a police officer.
City officials said they were aware of his history and conducted a background investigation before hiring him. Benevides City Council (politicians) discussed and voted on appointing Luckhurst as the town’s new chief of police on April 30.
Police Chief's answer directly to these same politicians, and either follow their edicts or get shown the door . . . . . get it now 🤔
