As of 7/29, I am no longer a resident of Commiefornia. Now residing in the great state of Tennessee. Filling up my truck for $48 less a fill-up. New registration for the truck, $50 this time for the new plate, $29 each year after that. Commiefornia wanted $555 this year. I can register it in TN for 18 years for what Commiefornia wanted for one year. And it took about 40 minutes to get the registration and title done. The new Real ID driver's license took about 25 minutes. And the clerks were pleasant and friendly. (Try either of those at the Commiefornia DMV). No state income tax. Put money on a house that is being built for 1/4 of what our Commiefornia house was sold for. Currently living with our son while the house is built. He's 800 feet from the boat launch on the lake. Already getting the grandsons on fish. Loving it. Here's a few pics. (The bucks were taken out of our bedroom window)...

Welcome to Tennessee.

Just for the history lesson: Pinson Mounds, near Henderson, Tennesse, was Indian Sacred Ground for Indian tribes all over the New World. Artifacts in graves are from Alaska, Peru Mexico and many places other than Southern United States. And ther is a great temple mound there. Yet ther was never a village there. Great chiefs were brought from their homeland to be buried there. Even though there was no BBQ establishment there at the time, the Indians knew that Tennessee was a near to Heaven as one could get.

A rather unique note: The body of the dead chief was accompanied by his widows. At his funeral, they were slain and buried with his body.

IMO, the people who created the sewer known as The People's Republic of California (and The People's Republic of Orygone, The People's Republic of Washington, The People's Republic of Kolorado, etc) should have to stay in the mess they created.

Instead, they move to a civilized state and take their politics and their amorality with them. How do you think Oregon, Washington and Colorado went into the sewer?

Edited to add: I lived in TN for ~13 years. Got two college degrees there. A BA in Nashville. Nashville was a sleepy, dark red conservative city known for old timey country music. I even went to church with the late Sonny James. Great fella.

But then stinking kalifornians started swarming in. Initially because of that liberal sewer Vanderbilt U. But then because of low taxes, cheap housing, etc. But those fools were too stupid to understand the reason kali turned into a dump was because of their brainless politics. And they brought their politics and dope smoking and sexual degeneracy with them.

Now Nashville is a liberal sewer fast approaching Austin, TX, class. (Austin also in the toilet because of kalifornians moving in.) Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Welcome to a better place. Looks like you are prepared to enjoy the good stuff.

One simple piece of advice, that I share with all who "move here to escape the crap they left."

Don't try to change anything that is working to something you used to have wherever you moved from. And never ever say; "Well, we did it like that in XYZ!"

You may have noticed a few posts above where it was mentioned you not moving to Montana, or the "sewer" states. It's because too many people do move from such places as Ca., or NY, or Fl, or whatever,, and then try & change their new place to what it was where they left.

And to the folks, who,, have escaped such places like Ca., NY, Fl, etc,, BUT who are also freedom loving, gun owning, God loving, true Americans,, I say; "WELCOME!!!!!!!!!"

I've been here long enough to know that redhawker is just such a person!

Now,, redhawker,, when do I get an invite to help y'all control those pesky deer that seem to be everywhere? :D

We don't mind new people, just don't remind everyone you came from California. The people from the Northeast do that in Florida and it really gets annoying. ;)

It would be great if everyone from up north escaped Florida for North Carolina. ;)

A lot of people who moved to CA changed it over the last 100 years, I'm using that length as that is how old my dad is and he is a native Californian as was his mom and dad.

CA didn't help elect Jimmy Carter, Texas did.

Funny how a 100 run of electing democrats as Governor in Texas , didn't earn it a title like people throw at states that haven't done the same.

The one thing that bugs me about the Cali people that move here is that they feel they have to vocalize everything that they think is a bargain....next thing you see is local merchants accommodate them and up the prices...even the DMV has me paying more than double what yearly registrations were a few years ago. If I have any advice, don't get excited about a 5 dollar burger for they will soon accommodate you with a 15 buck charge for the same thing. Learn to whine about the hi price even if you think it's low...;);)

Sounds good but what the property and sales tax rates?
TN sales - 9.5% - property - 0.59% of a property's assessed market value. (for comparison) Orange County, California sales - 7.75% - Property - 0.79% of a property's assessed market value. So, a little higher on sales tax, 11/4 cents more per dollar on stuff that, in general, costs less than in Commiefornia. And 0.2% more in Commiefornia for property tax although Prop 13 keeps the assessed value down in Commiefornia (unknown for how long as they're always trying to repeal that) so kind of hard to compair but from what I've seen some of these houses in TN are paying substantially lower amounts than a Commiefornia home. Depends on when the Commiefornia house was purchased as it is reassessed at that time and then can only go up slightly (due to Prop 13) each year after that. If you bought your house many years ago your property tax would be pretty low. If you just recently bought it would be high.

Has CA come after you yet with their ' Exit Tax' ??? I'm sure they will claim that everything you earn in TN is theirs as well.

Welcome to Tenn. Redhawker. Just like everywhere else in the U.S, if you stay away from the larger cities you're gonna love it here. We got beautiful scenery which you've already seen and four seasons of weather, sometimes we get all four in the same week.
Glad you got family around you too. That makes anywhere you are home.

New Jersey has that “exit tax,” what a joke! We didn’t buy a house so it didn’t affect us, but some friends of ours did.

It’s nice that TN doesn’t have income tax. Texas doesn’t either. That makes a huge difference too. It makes paying a little higher property tax more bearable, but just a little.

Need to go back farther than that to1867, that's when people from the southeast started moving there after the war. One of more famous families would be the Patton's from Virginia.

Jimmy Carter carried all the original south except Virginia, but California did give US Mr. Reagan, So we are about even. ;)

Gold Rush in 1849 started people west, after Mexico gave it and lots of other land to the USA in 1848.

Reagan is from IL.....he moved to CA.

Let me know when CA duplicates TX run of electing a Democrat Governors .

I left SoCal in 1979 use to go out visit Mom and Dad in Garden Grove and then my brother after my parents were gone. The last time was in 2018 when I went out to my brother's funeral; I looked around and said NEVER AGAIN !! Sadly we got all the lefties from New Joke and Joisie moving here , tearing down forests and crowding roads.
Sigh

Mr. Reagan was from Illinois, but you would be very hard pressed to find any true native of California.

The whole south as always elected Democrats, we were not even allowed to have Republicans until the 1970's.

I lived in California, pretty place, but was definitely glad to leave.

Mr. Nixon would be the only president from California and he did as good a as any of the rest.

"It would be great if everyone from up north escaped Florida for North Carolina."

Hah! A large percentage has already done that.

Around here we call them;
"A bunch of blue-haired, near dead, condo commando, Geritol sucking arsehats, who retired up north, moved south to Florida, found out they didn't like the heat, didn't want to learn Spanish, so they moved half way back to NC, to be a pain in our butts, and are working to change everything like it was up north because they complain about stuff here all the time!"
