Waiting (New Gun)

A friend has a spot where we can shoot out to 375 yards. The last time I went down there I was struggling with the open sights on my AR-15 at that distance. I decided I wanted a scope but I didn't want to change how that rifle is sat up. So I got an inexpensive Tru Glo LPVO (1-6x24) a few months ago. Now I've ordered & received an Anderson AM-15. Not the nicest rifle but the research I have done makes me believe it will perform well enough to ring steel out to 375 & with transfer & everything it was just a little over $400.
The only down side is I ordered it a week & a half ago, picked it up from the FFL Wednesday, cleaned & lubricated it that night, mounted the scope the next night. So I'm pretty much ready to go zero it & start breaking it in but yesterday was my wife's birthday & today is Father's Day so I'm doing the family thing all weekend then working 5 10's & an 8 this week. Hopefully I can get out & shoot it next weekend. I need to get some rounds through it & decide if I want to change anything or not.

It's always fun to work out a new gun & set things for intended uses. But I decided long ago to work for myself,, so that when I need "personal time" I can make it happen. Plus,, owning a gun range doesn't hurt either!

The safety lever feels stiff. I spent a couple of hours the other night watching T.V. flipping it on & off. It seems to be beginning to feel a bit smoother. The trigger seems to be crisp & clean but a bit heavy. I intentionally kept what I bought inexpensive so I would have money to change the trigger if I feel the need. I am going to try to put a some rounds through it before I make a decision about changing anything.

Okay, I wanted to give a quick update. I finally got to shoot it today. A friend's scope crapped out on the Swedish Mauser he uses for a deer rifle so he replaced it with an older Leupold he had. I went over & we zeroed our rifles. The Anderson is a nice rifle. The safety has smoothed out a lot. I'm sure it will continue to improve. The trigger is a touch on the heavy side but it is single stage, not overly long & crisp. I believe it will be much nicer after it has seen enough use to wear in some. I did not measure it but I had a 3 shot group I could cover with the end of my thumb (roughly 1 inch or a little less) at one hundred yards using 55 grain reloaded ammunition in once fired brass I bought in bulk years ago. I am happy with his rifle. Especially for the money spent.

A bit funny. I had been shooting it & my buddy his Mauser. He asked me to shoot the Mauser so I did. I was on target & starting to pull the trigger. The shot broke before I expected it. It was still good though it did hit about an inch low at 100 yards. That lighter trigger got me.
