Was Jack Webb anti gun

Just saw part of an old Adam 12. A guy coming back from the range was robbed of car and the guns in the trunk. Toward the endo f the Scene one of the cops gives the guy grief telling him he was attacked with fists and a tire iron. The smarts off and says now the assailants have his guns. The entire tone of the exchange was that the criminals weren't to blame, the law abiding gun owner was. This was filmed in 1973.

This got me to thinking if Jack Webb like many Hollywood types was anti gun.

Yeah, I didn't like that episode either. And a few segments in Dragnet episodes also. Definitely a negative lean to bits of them. Mostly good tv overall but with moments not so good.

From what I see, he was a staunch republican and pro police.

LAPD endorsed the show and used some clips of the show in training films.

I wonder if LAPD had an influence over the writing of the show. I’m sure they had advisors for technical stuff.

my understanding is that he was more anti-violence than anti-gun and as such tried to downplay gun usage/shooting in his show. Opting to portray police in a less lethal perspective; but, I guess he was a bit delusional being in LA and all . . . . .

I forget his name mostly because I rarely watched Hawaii 50 but he was the lead actor in the show. IIRC, he was a rabid anti-gun person and made no bones about it. Not so sure about Jack Webb but it would not surprise me if the was as well. Those two jerks on Streets of San Francisco were just as bad.

I do need to look up his film credits because the only other thing I ever saw him in was as Felix Leiter in Dr No. Seems he actually was in a lot of TV and movies and started on Broadway and was much revered as an actor... but he like to ask for a lot... like 50% fo the profits of what he was offered to star in.

He was in a series called Stoney Burke about a rodeo rider also. I don't think he liked doing series shows too much though. He lived there in Hawaii I believe so he was sort of ingrained in their far leftism too I guess.

Notably Ojala taught James Arness to shoot and in the early episodes of Gunsmoke was who Matt Dillon drew against and shot at the intro. One one taping Arness fell as a joke instead of Ojala.

James Arness was wounded in the right leg, and lost part of his foot in WWII. He had issues with that leg for the rest of his life, and always filmed any scenes that involved a good deal of walking or running first thing in the morning. You can see that he had a noticeable limp in many episodes of Gunsmoke...That's also why he never tied down that holster.

I binge watched Emergency! a few Winters back, that show was on when I was a kid, and I always really liked it. In several episodes of the first couple seasons, there was some anti-gun banter involved in the storyline, but then it all disappeared for the remainder of the series run.
