They are out there.
It is difficult to find 7.5" Vaqueros in some chamberings, e.g. 44Mag comes to mind, but the 45 Colt should be one of the more plentiful ones. A lot of the CAS/SASS shooters prefer shorter barrels, and many have been moving to 38/357 because of ammo/components costs lately or competitiveness or they like the smaller New Vaqueros. Case colored models are probably more common than SS.

I have a 7.5" high polish stainless one in 45 Colt and it is one of my favorites among a lot of Vaqueros. I call it the "Matt Dillon". Was just out shooting it yesterday and it is easy to shoot and very accurate. Plus, you can stuff the Vaquero up with "Ruger Only" loads if you want, not so the New Vaquero.

All I can say is check your local gun store that caters to CAS/SASS shooters or perhaps the online auction sites. There may be less of them being traded in now for New Vaqueros than before, but they still show up pretty often.

Here's one. Old model in stainless, http://www.gunauction.com/search/displayitem.cfm?itemnum=10986284.

New Model Blued.

Welcome Gibson,

I'll echo the above comments, but the 7.5" .45 was IIRC the first Vaquero cataloged. They are out there, just be patient.

Here is my 45 Vaquero with 7.5" barrel. Yeah they are out there. I have had this one since '93. It has a LOT of miles on it and is still going strong. They are great revolvers. Mine has a Power half cock hammer and trigger and a free spin pawl. It handles 300 gr. RCBS bullets very well.

When you get your "Mr Dillon"gun,go ahead and have Bob Leskovec of Pro Precision Grips make you a set of the imitation stag grips like Mr Dillion had on his gun.I always wanted a "Mr Dillion" gun so I just sent a Cimmaron Uberti Calvary model to Bob and had the grips made. They look just like the old B western guns did only they are made out of a lot better stuff. I wish I could put a pic on here but I cannot.I love them and they look and feel like they were grown on the gun.

Good luck Gibson. I'm another Matt Dillon admirer. Always wanted the 7 1/2 Vaquero .45. Never quite got there. Other Rugers kept getting in the way. It's still my Bucket List gun. If you grew up watching Gunsmoke like I did, it's time to go for it!

Perfect. But ya gotta let 'em draw first, and shoot straighter.

But alas, I am not even 100% certain that the Vaquero was ever made in 7 1/2"; I know that the New Vaqueros were/are. (I think 7 1/2" were discontinued?)

Howdy

Yes, they were most certainly made with 7 1/2" barrels. Here are mine.

I paid a lot less than that for them, but that was before they stopped making them. The days of a $250 used Vaquero are long gone.

I love the balance of the 7-1/2" Vaqueros. I have an original Vaquero in .44 magnum with a 7-1/2" tube and I had my original Bisley Vaquero re-barreled to that length too.

I just picked up a 7-1/2" stainless New Vaquero in .45 Colt, but I don't see them around too much.....

Here are my .44 magnums:

This is the NV in .45 colt:

Still, ouch $600+ after fees. Understand where you're coming from, but they're getting too steep for my blood.

Happy hunting

I hate paying that much, BUT they don't make them anymore AND the 7.5 inch guns allegedly were only about 5% of total production.

There is a blue 44 magnum in 7.5 on one auction site right now that is still under $400 and 2 days to go....I need it like my horse needs tennis shoes and SWMBO will blow a gasket, but....

Glad you got your 7 1/2" Vaquero. Anxious to see a pic with your new rig. You deserve a "splurge" that makes you happy.

You have my best wishes and prayers for you and your son and family.

I would love a 7.5" .357 New Vaquero :D

A quick scan of the New Vaquero lineup just shows a 5.5" as the longest barrel length in all the calibers, .357 and .45 LC.

A 7.5" .357 Blackhawk is available but it's not quite the same 8)
