Vaquero hammer differences question

I had never noticed a difference in the Vaquero hammers before until I was looking through some of my parts I have laid aside today looking for a Bisley hammer. The more upswept hammer is a Vaquero hammer from a 44special and the the other is from a 45colt Vaquero. Did they do this for the 44special only or is this a difference in Vaqueros old vs new

It appears to me that you have one hammer from an original Vaquero and one hammer from a "new" Vaquero

Yes, I believe the higher spur on the "New" Vaquero is for the CAS crowd. Whether they like it or not, I've no idea.

The hammers on the New Vaqueros, such as the one on the left in your photo, have a longer spur than the original Vaqueros. Some don't like the design but I find that it gives more leverage for easier cocking.

Now that you all are talking about this, and I’ll have to check mine tonight, but I think there’s a difference between the New Vaquero and the standard Blackhawk hammer, too.

Both of my .357s are New Vaqueros.
The 5.5” gun has the newer design with the longer spur.
The 4.62” is a Talo edition with the older style hammer profile like the Colt.
I prefer the latter.

Don't forget that some of the New Vaquero Talo offerings are equipped with the standard Super Blackhawk hammers.
To the best of my knowledge, it's only the .44 Magnum models.

Thanks everyone I didn’t realize they had changed the with the new model Vaquero but thought that might have been what it was from. Looks like more of fanning hammer design I can see where it would be better for Cowboy Action stuff.

You're right because the original Vaq and the Blackhawks, flattop Blackhawks, and single sixes all use the standard hammer shape.
