Been buying most of what I need from Amazon and Prime delivery is no problem. I used to by from some that shipped UPS and that was no problem. I haven't had a UPS delivery in a couple years but had two last week. My front gate is quite a ways from my house. UPS used to drive right up to my place but no more. A delivery I had last week was left at my front gate which I can't even see from my place so I didn't even know it was delivered. I'm 76 years old and don't want to be walking way out to that gate especially in the heat.

I put up a new sign on my gate which is self explanatory in the picture below. Now, there is no possible reason that driver can't follow that sign and drive right up to my house. See the package right in back of the post on the right? Yes, he was too stupid to read the sign and leave the package at my house. He can't say he didn't see the sign. The package you see was delivered today Saturday 9/2.

Amazon Prime trucks drive in that way and drive all the way to my house, so does the big Inland trash truck so there's no excuse for UPS to do that.

I might add that there is a nice horseshoe type turn around at my house for the guy to go back out. He doesn't even have to back up his truck. My driveway is long and there are two more signs pointing to my place.

For decades I received packages almost daily for work (I avoided going to the office as much as possible). The UPS, DHL, USPS and FedEx guys were really good about ringing the bell at the front gate.

Then Covid. I retired, the regular delivery folks disappeared and were replaced by kids. Now these kids are either blind, stupid or lazy. This also includes the Prime and On Trac folks. Not one can push a button.

I’ve watched them deliver to my neighbors. They just drop the package on the porch, take a photo and run. They make no attempt to notify you they have made a delivery.

Package theft is rampant in my area. I sometimes think the thieves are in cahoots with the delivery people. If they notified the resident it might result in loss of illicit income.

I just had a run in with UPS Wednesday myself. This guy was an idiot. Pulled in my driveway, turned around and left. No package.
I called and complained and was told he quit that day and it is hard to find drivers.
It was delivered Friday with an apology.

Ask them why they do that.
Maybe they aren’t required to leave it on your stoop?
Maybe it’s driver discretion?
How am I going to ask them. I don't even know when they leave a package. I can't see that gate from my house. Like I said, there is a nice turn around at my place so they don't even have to back up their truck. They should at least be required to leave the package within sight of my house. There is also a big drive through back gate at my place that they could also use. It would be much easier for them to drive up to my place and leave the package than where they are leaving it now. And like I said, all other delivery people drive right up to my place so it isn't like it's hard to do. The gates are open, all they have to do is drive right in.

WOW, you were able to talk to someone at UPS? I’m impressed.

Well Cary if you can’t see the gate from your house, then they can’t see your house from the gate.
At your age, you should be able to figure out how to call or email your local UPS office or hub, etc.
Make it as hard as you like. Seems it’s hurting nobody but you.

I have two suggestions.... and little faith in the first one...but you never know:

1) Modify your sign with a large PLEASE (at the beginning of your request) and a "Thanks, Cary" (at the end of your request).

2) I've been told that the post office in our area offers an email service that tells you when a package has been delivered; at least armed with this alert, you can make the trip to your front gate only when it's necessary.

I've never had an issue with UPS but lately FedEx .has been anything but satisfactory. I've had two ammo shipments delivered to my next door neighbor even though his front door has large house numbers. They also left a package on my doorstep for a neighbor 4 houses down from me even though my house also has large numbers on my front door.

Doesn't matter who can see what. It's a pretty plainly written sign, in English. One can safely assume UPS drivers know how to read English.
I don't think that's making life hard on anybody.

I've had the same problem with FedEx. Whenever my regular driver was out, anything I got was apt to be left at the gate, regardless of signature required, raining or not; instead of the front porch.
I told my regular driver about it, he took care of the problem.

Yet STILL there’s no indication whether or not they’re REQUIRED to go up the drive, or if it’s driver discretion or if they’re prohibited from doing so. Would the reasonable thing to do be trying to ASK them for an explanation or dismiss the ability to speak with them and continue to complain?

Don’t answer that, I already know. We’re a nation of complainers. Damn social media.

A UPS driver signed my name for a gun he was delivering and left it out in the open. I complained and they said the could suspend him but he will win the appeal and end up with a paid vacation. Unions too often reward people that are dumb and lazy.

For all you guys thinking I'm wrong...When I used to order a lot of stuff that came by UPS, they used to drive right up to my house.

I only had so much room on that sign as you can see in the picture. I tried to call UPS to talk to someone but it was impossible to get a human. The recording even said "I can not connect you to a representative at this time".

I have taken plenty of pictures of how my driveway is, even aerial pictures and I know where the nearest hub is from me. I plan on going there with all of that on Tuesday morning.

As I said, with my turn around, it's actually easier for the driver to come right up my driveway than to leave my packages at the gate. There is also a big vehicle gate at the back side of my property in case the driver has to drive further back to deliver to houses past my place. I'm not asking the guy to do anything that would make his job harder. I'm asking the guy to use a little common sense. Someone is paying for that driver to deliver a package to my residence.

Maybe the "NO TRESPASSING" sign above your new sign threw him off. 😁
That "NO PRESPASSING" sign is to keep idiot dirt bikers off my property. We once had to shoot a horse because of a collision between the horse and a dirt bike. That was nothing to laugh at.

I believe they used to go up to the house. Not calling you a liar here. I am saying they don't have to go up to the house no matter what kind of sign you have. I would not approach a house I cannot see from the road that has a no trespassing sign either.

Hey it's not like their is some kid playing a banjo on the other side of that sign.

FWIW, I get deliveries using UPS, AMAZON, & USPS. Each one asks if I have special delivery instructions. So it doesn't sound as though they have any restrictions or very little restrictions on complying with a customers request.
Having said that, I ask them to drop the delivery to my side door instead of my front porch, because the front is visible from the street. THEY NEVER DO IT! 🤯

I have to side with Cary on this one. The sign specifically says “UPS”. It’s visible and in plain English.

As I mentioned, the quality of the delivery people today is deplorable. It’s all services.

As an example, my regular USPS carrier was injured a couple of years ago and now rarely have the same carrier two days in a row. I noticed that at times I wouldn’t receive mail for several days and then get too much to fit into the box. I queried my neighbors and found that on these days no one on my block received mail. When I contacted the PO they finally admitted that they didn’t have anyone to deliver mail those days.

So much for nothing preventing delivery. Oh, and as to the gloom of night, they don’t work after dark. Apparently, there’s too large a risk of tripping.

Maybe they are just more liberal where you. Around here- carriers have been forced to work up to 14 hours delivering. That puts them at returning to the office after 10 pm daily. And that is now standard practice. It all started after Covid and no one wanting a job anymore. Used to be there was a waiting list for a USPS job. Now, they can't hire anyone to come to work and replace the retirees (who now leave their jobs earlier due to the long workhours and cancelled vacations, and forced weekends. It's a vicious circle.

You can set up to be notified when a package is delivered. Then drive down to the gate and grab the package.

I believe that are not required to drive all the way up to the house. Look at it this way. What if everyone live far off the road and they had to drive to each house. It would take forever to complete a route. Now with that said I live a ways off the road and they do deliver right to my front porch.

About 15 years ago I bought two black powder muzzle loading rifles online and they were going to be delivered by UPS and require a adult to sign for them. I was in my living room when the UPS truck showed up. By the time I got to the front door the female driver had placed the boxes on the porch and had turned and was walking away without knocking or ringing the door bell. I called out to her saying, I was suposed to sign for these and she turned around looked at me and made a circle motion in the air with her finger and walked away.

Since I'm a retired 3rd generation USPS employee, I have this figured out. I make it a point to maintain a reasonably good relationship with my delivery folks(USPS/UPS/FedEx). It makes for a 'more harmonious outcome' in the long haul.
Yes, I agree . I give the mail person as much consideration as I can . Clean out the snow from the box in the winter etc. Always a pleasant greeting or wave if I just happen to be outside at delivery time . 😊

Can't make any relationship with this UPS driver since I don't know when he's there leaving a package at my gate.
