Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 11

My PC was over 8 years old and I put off getting a new one because I didn't want to learn Windows 11. Years ago my son had Windows 10 and I didn't like it at all. The computer was giving me problems because there's been no updates in over 2 years. He came down for a week so we ordered a new PC etc. on Amazon and had it all in 2 days. I have a new everything.

He got what I needed from my old computer and nothing I didn't need. It all fit on a tiny chip he plugged into my new tower. He said I might notice a few differences, but no big deal. If you like Windows 7 you'll like Windows 11. There's no learning curve to it as the differences are very minor.

So, if you're an old dog who doesn't like to learn too many new tricks, the transition from 7 to 11 is seamless.

I have been running Windows 7 PRO for years now on my Sony VAIO I bought way back in 2009; I forget what garbage program it had, but I switched to the Win 7 Pro and have been happy ever since. MAYBE if 11 is as easy as 7 I might switch.

Finally! My current computer is 3 years old but it came with 11. This computer has been incredible. And absolutely no hiccups with Windows 11.

Glad you are happy with your new setup. Did you get a nice big monitor?

It's 23.8" and super thin. My last one had touch sensitive adjustments I didn't like at all. This one has regular push buttons on the bottom to adjust the screen.

The hardest thing to find was the keyboard. I didn't want wireless and the ones I found on Amazon and Best Buy all had keys that stuck up like Legos. I like keys more like a laptop. I also insist on the keys being backlit. I finally bought the wireless Logitech MX Keys and really like it. I just leave it plugged in the charging hole and put black tape over the blinking green charging light.

My windows 11 has never crashed. I can’t say that about 7 when I was using it.

CPM to Win 11, they all have their quirks. But like it or not you WILL upgrade! Microsuck has spoken and DOES rule the sheep herd!

PS I still like my MS-Dos system, quite the tool!

No, I’ve not tried a different browser and probably should. But, my honey got me a VERY nice iPad for Christmas 2021 so the vast majority of my time is with that.

I recently picked up a Lenovo laptop to replace a 2011 one I had for carry use and find Windows 11 to be quite good. Opera is my preferred browser for Windows based systems. One of the musts for me was loading the old Windows games like solitaire and that entire suite. It is pretty good for the times I have taken it in to work. Got some music which I listen to through ear plugs they are fine with that and me playing solitaire.

I had to buy a new laptop when my 12 yr old HP got invaded by maleware (my fault). A relative in NC bought me a new Dell and reconfigured the start up page with some kind of a "shell" program that makes my Windows 11 laptop look exactly like my Windows 7. I don't have to look at those stupid "app icons" and try to figure out what they mean. As far as I know, this new laptop has Windows 7.....but it doesn't

I'm just sorry I missed the free upgrade to 11 from Windows 10. I have Windows 10 on my laptop and don't much care for it. As far as I'm concerned XP was the best OS Microsoft has come up with.

My 10 doesn't have something needed to upgrade it to 11. I wish I still had XP. 10 took forever to figure out and I am in no particular hurry to learn another system.

This one came with 10. I get "reminders" frequently that I can upgrade to 11. I'm of the school if it aint broke don't fix it.

I have Windows 8.1 that Microsoft stopped supporting in January. I'm now running Norton Antivirus Plus that also includes a smart firewall so I don't need support from Microsoft any longer.

Pulled the plug on Microsoft. Got an Apple Mini-Mac and a Samsung S27C650P 27" Widescreen HDMI LED Monitor. Had MS desktops for years, switched to laptop. Hated the virus applications and having to pay for it for many years. Son-in-law, an IT geek, got me free virus MS protection for years. Then the old program was no longer supported and since I had already had an Apple iPhone, the switch was easy. As they say, I went to the dark side. I’ve had the Mini-Mac for the last 3 years. No need to buy virus or upgrade software, Apple does it for free.

Last year I had to update (as in new) my pc and my iPhone. It seems my banks BillPay system no longer gave me access on my old IOS and on my Windows 7. They required a later more recent operating system for me to do my online banking.

I don't mind upgrading to newer operating systems for security purposes, but I hate it when changes are made like COPY/PASTE. They both used to be in the drop down/pop up? window and they were moved from that mini menu and made into icons at the top/bottom of the screen when right clicked. Mebbe it's just me? Leave well enuff alone??? Oh and also when wanting to do a slideshow...fuhgetaboutit. I went online to see how it changed and I guess I am too dense for the instructions. Oh, and love instructions when it says, "Click on ..." Well, where is that? I prefer step by step instructions and I hate it when peeps say, go to YouTube. I find going to yet another site, oh it can all get to be too much for this old man. Sorry for this early morn rant. Just now beginning to sip at my coffee.

Those were most often the result of 1D10T errors.

That's good to know, thanks. My old Windows 8.1 is still chugging along but I know I will have to get a new desktop soon as the fan is making noise once in a while and cleaning the inside doesn't help. My wife's Windows 10 really put me off so I have resisted getting a new one until now.

Going on 18 years. Bought this one in early Aug. 2005, just before a little storm we had called Katrina.
It survived the storm and has been upgraded several times and is now on Windows 11, I think.

Question. At work I made a grave mistake Friday I have had same computer for 8 years. I have 18 months to retire. My computer was taking 45 minutes to boot up. I have the oldest computer in company with windows 7 on it. I had the I.T manger change my computer to new windows 11 computer.I thought I was doing the write thing. NO. I am lost. I have not slept since Friday night. I spent 1 hr at work Friday before I went home trying to make it work. I am lost. Completely lost. I made a huge huge mistake by changing computer at 63 1/2. I am sick and I mean sick. Don’t see how I will perform my job. Cannot even find how to use the tool bar let alone the other stuff. I emailed the I.T Mgr Friday night from my phone and ask her if she could reinstall my old computer with windows 7 on it. and told her why it was my fault and did not think it out. Do you think that us even possible ? If so I don’t think I will make it it1 month let alone 18 months. No one in company can help me.
We are so behind so under staff. I am so depressed by my decision. It could put me out the door 18 months before I am ready to retire at 65. Is there a simple book that I can buy just on basic of windows 11 ? I just need to start with basics like tool bars , attachments finding my the stiff I saved setting up my emails so i can see my emails not just who they from. I want the whole email to show up not just who it from. I am physically sick over this. Thank. Marty
