TV screwups...once again

Was watching the AMC channel yesterday and they were speaking of the Marines and their methods of assaulting the beaches during WWII in the Pacific. They were speaking of how the F4U was such a help as it could be used in various roles. They then showed photos of it in action. First a F4U then the next "Corsair" was an F6F, then the next shot showed something with a non-retractable landing gear and wheel pants. That was all for that show and then in the very next show they were speaking of the bombing of the German factories during WWII and showed a shot of a B-29 dropping a load of ordnance. Since the B-29 wasn't used in the European Theater of operation it was one more screwup. I gave up. Went outside to watch the bees on the sunflowers.

The History Channel is the worst. You'll see flintlock rifles in WWII scenes, anyone and everyone in German paratrooper helmets, and all sides in WWI using Lee-Enfields. They don't care, or the filmmakers are sneering at the military.

I tend to watch the "Justice Network", which is another John Walsh abortion
and have found that ANYTHING from Canada that involves guns, is a total
piece of (insert your favorite expletive here). They will talk about "high power"
9mm, while showing .22lr cases. Or another favorite is talking, again, about
the high power 9mm, while showing .38 special cases (at least the caliber
is close). :roll:

Oh well.

I was watching something about the "Mariannas Turkey Shoot" and they showed gun camera footage of planes being shot down. But in one scene, one plane was a P-47 Thunderbolt. Not exactly present at that spat.

Personally I enjoy picking out those mistakes on TV that they think we're all too stupid to catch. I really don't take is as insulting.

I don't think it's that they think we're stupid. They're just making a TV show/movie. 99 out of 100 people wouldn't notice these things, and 99 out of 100 of the others won't give a flying fig. They're trying to put film in the can while spending the least amount of money they can. Hey, we got stock footage of a P-47's guns firing...use it. We got film of a B-29? That'll work.

You want to see that footage of the P-47? Go back and watch the "12 O'Clock High" TV show. It's in every episode. That and the half dozen or so bullets stitching down the side of a plane somewhere.

My personal favorite is all the left handed bolt rifles I see. Wonder what happened to them?

I'm fast to catch scenes on documentaries showing left hand ejection ports on Garands and 1911's. Film reversal?? And UZIs in the hands of Soviet military units during portrayals of Cold War era conflicts. Mostly has become just an annoyance for me. Don.

My wife used to get really upset at me for picking apart some of the gaffs I'd find in the movies and TV shows. It was just fun to me as I was in classes at university for tv and film making.
The biggest for me was catching things different from scene to scene, something out of place, like a book open in one scene and closed in the next, or articles of clothing worn differently. I had to stop when my wife told me she wasn't watching with me anymore because I was too annoying----

I was reading an article reprinted from a Pittsburgh newspaper the other day; it talked about a particular aircraft carrier as being "one of the few to escape from Pearl Harbor". Of course, there were no carriers at Pearl Harbor.

I recently gave some Chinese nationals a little shooting lesson (they were geeked beyond words to be able to SEE, let alone touch guns) during which I showed them some of the most familiar gun goofs on film so they could be "all knowing" when they watch movies back home. They really liked how a shotgun pumped for show expels a round. I also let them do the math on a 30 round magazine out of a 600 RPM gun for a two minute continuous burst.

I get a kick out of watching many episodes of certain westerns where the hero always wear the same exact shirt week after week.

Yeah...how about Bonanza? Same exact wardrobe every show.

And how about "Small Jose"? He always wore that green heavy corduroy jacket and those gloves. It could be 105 degrees in town and he's wearing that jacket and gloves when everyone else is in shirtsleeves. Even sitting in a saloon drinking a beer he's wearing those gloves. Just never could understand that. :mrgreen:

Watch Laramie and see Jess Harper with his gloves on all the time or Slim Sherman's shirt with the stitching around each shoulder.

They keep actors in same clothes so that a clip from some point may be used later. Although you see the same clothes each week. There are many sets of clothes that are the same. Like the vehicles used in series, they normally have a fleet ready for the camera of the actually vehicle and many other things you see. Babies and real young children are always really twins but shown as just 1.

There's a reason old houses don't have closets. Folks only had a couple of changes of clothes.

I don't know that they had washing machines on chuck wagons. Seems half the flicks showing a cattle drive had people with clean clothes show up for chow.
