Tropical storm Fred is headed for South Florida this weekend and I am really happy about this. This storm is only packing 45mph winds and it just might break the heat wave we have been having. Everyday the temp goes over 85 degrees before 9 am in the morning. The average high temp has been 91-93 degrees at noon and it stays hot until just before sunrise and with the 70 to 90% humidity it usually feels like well over 100.

I know folks have been having heat all over the country and I was just wondering what it is like for you. I got out and mowed a little after 6pm and I was exhausted after only doing a little bit of the backyard.

You know, we’ve been having a very mild summer. But across the country folks are complaining about their weather. Now I could poke fun and insult those folks like they do California every chance they get. But I think just sitting on the beach in the evening enjoying the pleasant on shore breeze is revenge enough.

So as the oul saying goes “suck it up buttercup”.

Seems very average here in mid Michigan, maybe a little wetter than usual.
Upper 70's to upper 80's a few stray 90 degree days, just a typical summer
so far.

I am sorry for the folks who regularly endure tropical storms, or worse...

Our summer has been warm. But after nearly 70 summers, I remember many other hot summers. This is not new for me.

But everyday on the news there are warnings for folks who have apparently never experienced hot weather in the summer. There are cooling centers set up throughout the area with free bus fare to get you there. When I was young we called them a river, a swimming pool, or even a lawn sprinkler. 8)

Government is now expected to mitigate hot summer days.

It's funny they never issue any 'heat advisories' for South Florida.

This is only my third Summer here, and the one thing I . . can . . say is that it is
similar to CO in that if you don't like the weather, just wait a little; it WILL change.
Last Summer was brutal. The average number of days at or above 110 is 23 or 24.
Last Summer had 53! Dry as all get out.

This Summer has been closer to seasonal norms. What I find interesting is the
rain fall. There are a half dozen NWS data collection points within a very few miles
of my house. When I looked, last night, there was a 50% variation in rain fall for
my area. The collection point nearest my house ('bout 1/4 mile) seems to be getting
very close to the amounts my Davis weather station is reporting. YTD 6.9 inches.
Keep in mind our average is just over 10 inches per year, and 1.6 inches of the 6.9
was in four hours, night before last.

I also noticed that for the last few days, Denver has been hotter than Phoenix.

Golly-Gee-Whiz!

For the past two weeks we have been having thunderstorms galore. We're a bit over 4" above normal for rain. I just wish they would occur at two in the morning where a loud clap of thunder sets off the alarms in both my vehicles. I lost about three hours of sleep thanks to last nights boomer. More of the same expected for the next three or four days. Oh well, we do need the water.

90's most days then down to mid 80's by 10:00 at night (I sleep outside on a porch) here in Greenville, S.C. where it seems everyone in the country wants to move to.... but yesterday a big gulley washer came through and it was actually 72 last night.. had to cover up by 3:00.

If I was in charge to move here you could not have AC for the first three years... I think that would solve our 'immigrant' problem.

The high today was less than 90 degrees and there was a breeze off the ocean from the east. That is what our summers are suppose to be like.

Riding mower, straw hat and cold beer. I can get the whole yard done in 3 beers or less in the hottest part of the day.

Since June 1st through today (August 12) every day has been over 90°, with 47 days over 100° in my neck of the woods. I don't live in the desert. I live in the center of the San Joaquin Valley. The high was 113°. 102° today.

upper mid west is in drought. warm 90s alot of days. death valley had more rain than the red river valley in minnesota. corn is very tall but if it gets no rain the cobs will not be developed. hay is scarce, a lot of cows are getting sold off from no grass. old timers claim dust bowl was only thing worse.

Yesterdays high was supposed to be 104 but the smoke from wild fires was so thick it only made it to 90. This morning the sun looked like a big red beach ball through all the smoke.

Been a bit above normal here too. On the 11th I took a picture my weather station display monitor. At 2:44 pm the temp was 98°, humidity was 69%, dew point was 73°, and the heat index was 129°. Just a bit toasty! Still having the same weather three days later. It is 96° and 112° heat index at 12:23 pm. Probably will get hotter later.

And now, my cell phone is ringing off the hook with dire warnings... "It's gonna be hot today! Escape while you can!"

Some government employee that's paid to do this, finally had his moment.

Back to my prior post, isn't summer supposed to be hot?

August has been slightly warmer than usual. Mid 90's daytime and mid 70's at night. Now and then a "cold front" comes through with lower to mid 80's daytime and mid 60's at night. I have A/C but I don't use it. I just keep the shades closed in the daytime and put fans in the windows at night. Between 5 and 7 PM it gets uncomfortable inside so I just go outside and sit on the porch and watch my dog chase grasshoppers. :)

Could we tell which part got done on 0, 1, 2, third beer :) I like your style.

In eastern NE, fairly typical heat and weather for us. Got a few weeks of 90's and into 100's. All with pretty normal high humidity which makes this old fart appreciate AC sheltering. I mow the lawn in the morning, but even then have to take at least one hydration and cool-off break.

I don't think there were many records broken. Glad I'm not further west of here with their extreme heat, drought, and fires. Daughter in Boise is getting hammered and sending stuff our way (heat and smoke).

Our rainfall is close to average. Seems like less thunderstorms in our area, though north and south of us seem to get more.

My Wife sent this photo from Yakima, yesterday...

The smoke kept it cooler today. We didn't get above 96 degrees. 8)

I'm in the SE corner of Wis. This year we have been over 90 degrees many days as well as very little rain even in the spring. Unusual for this area. Last year didn't think it would ever quit raining in the spring and it was a pleasant comfortable summer. I'm 73. My point is in my life I've seen hot, humid summers. Cool summers. Cold, snowy winters and mild , very little snow winters. IMO the climate change promoters are full of crap. The weather is the weather. Does it change?? Absolutely. Always has, always will.
