Anyone know about hydraulic jacks? I have been looking for a cheap jack to have in my daughters car. Her rockers are rusted off so figure the factory jack has nothing to lift on HAHA.
Anyway I got given to me a 3 ton Craftsman extra high lift jack PN:950143. Seemed to work just pumping the handle so I was stooked.
Fast forward, we were changing the brakes on her car to get it ready (bought cheap knowing it needed work) and it wouldn't lift any weight?

Google led me to conclude fluid was low. Got some hydraulic fluid from a guy at work and tonight filled it up. I topped it up and jacked it up and down. filled it some more and jacked it up and down. Added more and jacked until I felt it should be good. corked it off and tried to lift a car.... nothing.

Any ideas?

Looks like this:

I didn't see any leaks but it was pretty empty. Even after filling I didn't see anything leaking.

But yes.... free. HAHA

Looks nice so I really don't want to scrap it if possible to fix.

Yes I tightened the screw that lets it down.
I think I bled it correctly. All the videos I've watched say leave the lift screw open and pump the jack as if trying to make it lift.

Is there a nut screwed into the body of the jack, where the pressure release screw in screwed in> is the up/down screw threaded into something you can remove?
If you can remove it, try changing Orings in that area.

Did you rotate the handle clockwise until it stops, then pump the handle?
Counter-clockwise all the way releases the hydraulic pressure and it lowers on its own.
Clockwise all the way, then pump it to lift.

If it’s got fluid and its handle is twisted all the way clockwise and still doesn’t lift, I have no other idea but replace it.
When mine wouldn’t lift, it was low on Hydraulic fluid.

Throw it away, buy a new one at Harbor Freight. They're cheap. The jacks and HF both.

I buy some things at HF, and some I won't touch, but if I ever need a new jack, it will be from there. There a couple tire stores near me that use them and they beat the living snot out of them daily. I joked with the manager about them one day. He said they get more life out of $100 HF jacks than any $250-400 they have tried.

I bought a 3 ton HF floor jack to replace the one that burned in my shop. Works great and when it doesn't, I'll buy another. Years ago I spent big $ on WALKER floor jacks that didn't last as long as the HF jacks. Tried rebuilding the Walkers but that just wasted another $50 each.

Thanks for all the input. I don't plan to waste too much effort on this. Not sure if I'll scrap it or not yet but most likely. There are a couple jacks at local auctions I bid a few bucks on. Worst case like some have said, I can buy a new one.

Take care all until the next post....

Oh. The one auction not only has a jack but also some GP100 grips! I'm hoping to score! Ends tomorrow...
