Shooting my NMBH FT 45 Colt at the range last night. Trigger kicks back very sharply after round goes off. After 50 rounds my finger actually hurt. What is the cause and what is the fix? My OM's do not do this.

Do your primers look ok? I seem to remember something about this a long time ago on the forum. I believe it might have had something to do with the firing pin piercing the primers, but my memory fails me and a search didn't turn up anything for me. Is it just the trigger re-setting? does it do it when dry firing? :shock: :shock:

How much "trigger movement" is required to "trip the sear"? (You don't need to set up a fancy "test jig" to measure down to a "thou", but a "ball park figure" would get us started.)
I've seen examples that require 0.015" to 0.090" of trigger movement to get the "sear to trip!" I've seen a few that need MORE than that!
I hesitate to post a 17 part treatise on the basics and then the nuances of trigger alignment, spring tensions, internal dimensions, backlash adjustments, over travel devices, etc., etc., etc. without knowing the readers background knowledge, selection of measuring tools etc., etc., etc.............
I'm still "very wet behind the ears" with respect to this stuff. Shucks, I tore down my first Ruger SingleAction in the mid 1980's. I'm just a stinking "NEW GUY" !
Sure, I graduated from a prominent Engineering School twice and my wife knows the paper boy's Aunt................

Well, I don't know the paper boy, but he is prompt, rain, snow etc. I tried to measure the movement of the trigger to get it to release the hammer...but either my too many thumbs or wrong equipment made the effort useless. I did notice though that the trigger on the NM 45 FT rebounds farther forward than the trigger on a NM 41 FT (I know, different frame) and wonder if that has something to do with the backlash. I can put up with it, but seems strange compared to other NM's in my collection.

OK, try this......
Tear it down. Get it "squeeky clean". Use a "felt tipped marker" and "paint" the areas that are in question. Reassemble and dry fire with some "spent" cartridges.
Maybe the "over travel" portion of the trigger is bouncing and you are feeling it "twice"? I dunno. I love this internet gunsmithing....... :roll:
