Trigger adjustment

Not sure if this is the proper forum but maybe some of you could help. I have an Enfield Mark 4 No. 1 Long Branch, 303 British. It is fun to shoot and I reload for it. But the trigger squeeze is a monster. Anyone know how to adjust it, or even if it can be? Thanks in advance.

First, make sure it's been cleaned internally, since that can make a significant difference for older surplus rifles that may have gunk in the workings.

Second, verify that the trigger is properly positioned in relation to the sear. On Enfields up until the No. 4 Mk. 2, the trigger was on a separate piece (the trigger guard, as opposed to part of the receiver) from the sear, and the relationship between them can change as the gun is dis/reassembled.

Only after these are verified should you consider modifying the trigger/sear geometry.

Keep in mind this is an 80 year old surplus rifle that may have seen service in jungle, desert, or ??? so trigger action may be compromised by numerous factors. As NikA said, clean and check for debris or possibly swollen stock interference.
