Local pawn shop find about 10 years ago.
Set me back almost $400.00.

From 1948 according to SCSW. Right at the end of the “S” prefix serial numbers that ended in the S 999xxx area.

I carried S&W sidearms the vast majority of my law enforcement days. Starting with a model 28, a model 19 for several years, then a model 586 until several events led me to carry a model 4506.

That was carried until I was transferred to plain clothes and the 4506 was just too heavy. I tried a Berretta 96D 40 S&W, then a Glock 21C and finished with a M&P 45 ACP as my duty sidearm.

Love Ruger firearms with my latest addition a NM Blackhawk in 45 Colt/45ACP.

We fit that, quite a few Smiths, Colts, Marlins, some H&K, and the here and there Beretta and Steyr or FNH here among many, all welcomed, all valued!

I like them all. My 5 inch bbl stainless Ruger GP100 is ruggedly handsome to me, my 4 inch bbl Smith & Wesson 617-1 is the sweetest shooting .22 revolver I've owned.

My first handgun was a Model 28 so I have a long history and a love for the Smith wheel guns. I'll share a couple I currently own:

Model 24-3 and a slightly modified Model 25-2; and a Model 48.

On the subject of S&W revolvers. The company recently announced the introduction of three new/classic pieces and all three are Hell hole absent! Sounds to me like the rest of the line up might very well be the same. .357 has my attention already.
