Currently obsessing on beach weather conditions. Most of their weather guesstimation involves east/west coasts, metro areas, and vacation spots.
It's been a while since I sent them a scathing response to a comment about a tornado ripping a path across the Midwest. The comment: "Tornado was on the ground for miles but not much damaged since that's just farmland".
I'd stop watching TWC but it's the only source of radar storm tracking I can access.

Mobuck, go to your local Fox station's maps and radar link. Pretty good real time radar and there are options to show storm tracks, lightning and warnings and watches, and lots of other stuff.

The Phoenix Basin has their own "Weather Authority" that broadcasts continuously.
The display is divided into four portions so there is continuously one (or more) in
an advertisement. So far, just a YAWN! But when you look at the content of various
segments, specifically for the temperature, you find that those clowns don't even
look at what they are displaying. Is that another yawn? I don't think so, when you
can have TWENTY FIVE degrees difference in temperature for the same city,
both shown as "current temperature".

But then again, I guess you . . . could . . . have a twenty five degree difference
from one part of town to the other, on a clear day, full sunshine, wind below five
mph. :roll: . :roll: . :roll: NOT!

YES, I have written to them calling out the differences and asking WHY they have
not built some software to do sanity checks on the data. No reply, NO action taken.

RADAR? These people do not know what it is or how to use it.
But then again, I've been influenced by RADAR in Denver. You know, that place
that has tornadoes, snow, 100 degree heat, and occasionally -20 degree temps.
The idiots around here are concerned about a "cooling trend" that is no more
than five degrees. Not "a few degrees cooler" but rather "cooling down nicely".

At the time of my retirement I was certified on both standard weather radar and doppler. Frankly, I never much cared for the Doppler but it was the "new and better" thing. Maybe I would have liked it more if I had more time on it but was only "certified for about a year before I took retirement.

That is where I look each morning. I check the radar and figure out what I need to be ready for that day. It is much better then listening to the talking heads on the Weather Channel

A happy update:

Abbreviated Readers Digest version.
Had the batteries in my TV remote go wonkers tonight as I was trying to set up a
two channel toggle. Long story short, after changing batteries, I had to rescan the
channels and ended up with a "new" (to me) weather channel. Looked at the old
one and compared it to the "new" one, and I am VERY happy with the new one.

It rotates between about seven different screens that show: Nation wide temps,
Nation wide radar, state temps, state radar, Phoenix basin weather alerts, Phoenix
basin temps and Phoenix basin wind speeds.

WOW! Whoda thunk it?
Batteries die and I "find" a significantly improved weather report! :shock:

the goal of weather people is to instill panic, fear, and chaos....so youll buy things.
when its sunny.....the goal is to get you to go out and buy things to enjoy the good weather.
also....they are paid to downgrade reports and file them as official.....so insurance companies can use it, so they wont have to pay out premiums due to loss.....because it wasn't (really a tornado) or not really (a hurricane.)....just strong winds.

Any of us who fly,, or have flown as pilots learn how to REALLY watch the weather radar & information to know about our upcoming flights. I always liked the saying; "An instrument rating means you know when to stay on the ground!"

Reading weather is an art,, yet is not hard with good information!

Weather channels whole theme is: "Things are so bad, they've never been this bad before." That is actually a quote from a Japanese Sci-Fi movie.....

Last time I watched the weather channel was a goodly number of years ago... another hurricane had hit Florida, again, and they were showing refrigerated 18 wheelers headed South on I-75 in Georgia and reported these were to store all the dead bodies.... next day it was reported 2 people had died from that deadly storm.....
