I have wanted one since reading the book 'Serpico' back in the early 70's.... that's right I read the book before seeing the movie. Heck, I'll probably get one when they are actually available.
Then again, what was Springfield thinking? No poly frame and no striker designed trigger?

Springfield has a long and honorable history with steel and walnut. AFAIK, they've never been OUT of the steel and walnut business.

Well, I still own several Belguim Hi-Powers. Inc High Polish Nickle, Satin Chromes and a newly acquired GP. I also regret now flipping couple rennasiance, Centennial's and a pr of 30 Luger HP's. But that in the past. If I could only own 1 pistol make mine a Glock 19

Nice, I like it! Maybe Ruger will think about bringing some P series back!

Heck, I'd buy one of the new Carbines if they would just make an adapter to take the semi-old p series magazines. I mean how hard would that be to do? Throw in one that takes Sig P mags and I'd buy two of them.

(just in case some one in development is watching)

One hopes SA will consider an ambidextrous safety as an option . . . perhaps even a similar mag release.

Sorry about that slide release, though.

Ambi-safety is available aftermarket, same for a slide release and mag release. No idea how well the slide or mag release work, the slide release may be a bit spongy.

Ambi-safety works great. I put one on an Argentine HP copy and it fit fine.

BHP Specialists page did an overview of the Springfield and spoke well of it.

Talks about extractor and finish problems. Start at around 3:00min if you want to skip obligatory video 'humor'.

The high points of the reviews so far is that they opened up the ejection port for feeding hollow points better, the sights are higher and more visible, and it is rated for 9mm +p. All great improvements. Also no mag safety. I for one am glad no Ambi safety to make it more bulky. Apparently it has a good trigger ( no firing pin safety) also. And a decent price! Kudos to them for a great upgrade while keeping all the good stuff.
