Tell me about TV's.

One of our two primary TV's may have gone to that great signal in the sky. We choose to get all the goody out of our purchases so we have not shopped for replacements in 12 years.

LED or not. 2K or 4K. HD?

Sound? My only complaint on the Vizio we are replacing.

Would like a 50" +/- and spend no more that $600.00

Thanks for all advice.

It really depends on what your service is and what you want it to do, HD, Bluetooth, and Smart all have their place if you have a devices you would like to pair with your TV and you have a service that can handle those features.

LED yes. Viewable in bright light. They are all HD these days. The 4K is supposed to view action better. I'm not sure I can tell the difference even though I've looked at both. You probably can get a 50" on sale for that price. I have a Sony, Samsung and Toshiba that have worked well and have decent sound. Sound bars are available as an add on to get better sound.

I recommend that you . . . not . . . hook it up via internet. While that hook
up seems like it could be optimal, I really like NOT having someone I do
not know about, listening-to/monitoring what's going on in my house.

Much like the cloud makes all of your data available to anyone with the
technical knowledge to grab it, the so called "smart TVs" open you up to
far more than they will admit.

I agree that Vizio has less than optimal sound, the addition of their sound
bar has a nasty effect on your hearing. The ringing in my ears is FAR
worse now after a month with the sound bar, than it was prior. I now just
plug the sound output from the TV into my stereo and use the speakers
there for much better sound. 8) Also costs far less. :D

Sam's Club has a Vizio at your size/price target, as a starting point. :D

Best Buy's store brand has all the bells and whistles without name brand prices.

I know it is a trade off, but I do enjoy the shows available on Netflix (Longmire, The Ranch), Sling, etc.

I have no idea what they cost now but I have been eyeballing the 4K SUHD Samsung 55" curved screen LED and have to say the picture was spectacular!
Edit: Sam's Club lists them for $699 on the interwebs.

I have a Samsung 60" 4k that replaced my six year old Sony 55" that died. I really like the 4k. While there's not much on regular TV in 4k, there's a lot of stuff on You Tube in 4k. Some of the travel films on You Tube are spectacular with 4K. The usual 1K stuff on the networks still look a bit better on the 4k TV because they upscale the picture a bit. I paid about $1100 for this one about nine months ago. I bought a sound bar with the Samsung but really don't bother to turn it on very often because the audio from the set is really pretty good. If you have the money to spend look at an OLED screened TV. They have the most outstanding dynamic range and highest white to black ratio of any set on the market today. A bit pricey but sure have a great picture.
