I do this occasionally just to see what a lousy shot I am without my glasses.

G34 w/reddot. 2 full mags. Rapid fire, about 10yds standing off the porch. I missed 10rnds out of the 34 rnds. First 5 shots were off to the left with only one shoulder hit. Did get a few center mass on the 2nd and 3rd strings. I had a very hard time seeing the Holosun circle at all - washed out by sunlight. I absolutely need more practice like this and will have to increase the sight brightness.

That's a clever idea using bar clamps to stand up the plywood.

I posted about this last year, but you weren't a member then. Works well for backyards and transporting to remote locations. I use the cheapest 1/4" stuff I can find. Anything light weight will do if the wind isn't too strong.

Mas Ayboob did a video about how if you carry and wear bifocals, you should have the near vision section on the top so you can see your sight. His contention was that you are "functionally blind" otherwise. After I watched that video, I went to the range and tested his contention.

Looking through the distance vision section of my glasses, I still managed to keep everything in the black of a 50 foot bullseye target at 25 feet. Even with no glasses, I managed to hit the target with every shot. For the record, my distance prescription is about -5.

Of course my skills were enhanced because I was using the famous Ayboob Kenpo Punch Stance.

If you're over 65 a shotgun is preferred over a handgun anyway.
Hard to miss with a short-barreled 12 gauge loaded with No4 Buck.

Just point down the slide/barrel a bit right of center mass. Flash sight pic a bit to the right and press. At seven yards I don't need a good sight pic for SD. I suspect at 10 yards I can get mostly good hits. I did experiments seven years ago with good results using a number of handguns and calibers. i need to try it again. I'm 80 next month.

This is a good idea I need to mess with.

In case anyone is wondering why I'd practice occasionally without my prescription glasses, it's because I don't sleep or shower with them on, and there's always a remote chance they'd come off my face at an inopportune time. I don't want to be hunting for them when I should be pulling the trigger. :)

When I wore glasses I did the same thing for the same reasons. Had cataract surgery, got the lenses too. Vision's been 20/20 for the past year. Wasn't cheap, but hated wearing glasses, especially when working on some project in the heat or rain.

Without my glasses the target needs to be within about 5 yards or less for me to have a good chance of hitting at or near what I want to hit. This doesn't bother me since I assume that if I ever need to shoot in self defense its likely that I am within 2 yards of my opponent.

Ever since I had the lens in both of my eyes replaced, my problem is no longer how far away the target is, it is now become focusing on the front sight. I can get around that to a great extent by using a "peep sight" with just the right orifice size, AND ensuring that it is mounted at just the right distance from my eye WHILE at the same time, remains at just the right distance from the front sight....Problem there is, although all of that is relatively easy to arrange on a rifle, ya just can't pull all of that off with a handgun...so...without wearing just the right glasses, I can't shoot a handgun nearly as well as I used to, because the fact is, if ya can't focus on the front sight, ya can't hit the target.

Same here, I will be 80 in March.

It may help to start your practice at 10 feet. Master that distance. It will better replicate shooting across a room in a house. I prefer iron sights for the sunlight issue. At night waking up it is hard to get your glasses on, especially when you need your gun. I too practice without my glasses.

I can’t focus the front sight either. So, I practice without my glasses, I find the blur representing my good hits, and look for that blurred sight picture. It takes practice but it works for me.
I have seen peep sights for handguns advertised, but have not tried any. Something I might check on.

I normally don't blame the gun, but part of this is the gun. Specifically the G34 and the G21, both equipped with red dots. The Glock trigger is the absolute worst trigger of any of my firearms. Gritty, heavy, and a long reset, that aggravates my physical shortcomings. If I wanted to spend a few hundred I suppose I could remedy that with decent trigger kits. But I'm not inclined to dump more money into them than I already have. So I've resigned myself to multiple mag dumps in the event of a home invasion if I have to use one or both of the Glocks, and save up for wall repairs. 😬

Bad thing about that is over penetration. I don’t know how close your neighbors are, but if you can concentrate on making your first shot count, you definitely reduce the over penetration. 9mm will go through sheet rock and outside siding unless you hit a stud just right. You can’t trust hollow points to prevent over penetration, either.

Nearest neighbor is 1/4 mile away thru dense forest. Neither of us is worried about it. :)

I went to the range last weekend for the first time in over a month. I was shooting with my prescription sunglasses and no problem seeing the target I just couldn’t get focused on the front and rear site. I’ve never tried shooting with my trifocals just because they aggravate me and I can’t get used to them.

I had cataract surgery but still wear glasses. To see the front sight I have to hold my head tilted back. Have an appointment in early January and am going to ask if they can come up with a different design that will solve my problem. We shall see.

I've noticed that when you are shooting Fox Mike... did not know if it was a special method just while sitting on Trigger or not. I'd say that the eye glass folks could get you a pair of shooting glasses....

Here is what I do. Kidding. I try to shoot without my glasses sometimes. If I have bright enough light, I do OK. But if I am in a dark indoor range my shooting is a joke.
