Shot my MkII target last week.

So what's the big deal right? Well, between a semi bad winter & my knees hurting enough that I haven't felt like doing much at all for months.
Then I finally realize how long it had been since the last pair of shots I went and got one in each knee. They helped more than last time & then the temps warmed up. I actually felt like shooting. I'm fortunate enough to have a pretty good selection of handguns, but out of the blue the mkII came up.
It was a lot of fun, my proficiency was still decent & the icing on the cake was that the Ruger really liked an ammo that I'd never shot in it. Norma Tac 22 SV, I was hearing good things about it, & found a super deal on, & so I'm well stocked up.

Thought for a while that I just no longer cared much about an activity that I've invested heavily in, but there were other things interfering. Now, I happily know I still love to shoot. Entertaining thoughts of a round of sporting clays. I'll still rent a golf cart though.

The Ruger Auto is a good pistol, I bought one right when I turned 21 it was a heavy barrel Mark 1 & I wore the bluing off that thing.

Next up I purchased a Mark 2 & liked the bolt lock open feature and the 10 round magazine.

The 2 is as far as l went as I really liked the feature set, I've been thru most of the barrel types and currently have 2 of them in my collection

Glad you found an ammo that it likes, an accurate 22 pistol is one of life's little pleasures.

I have three Mark II's, my favorite is the 6 7/8" tapered barrel with target sights. It has a 1 3/4 pound trigger. It's the most enjoyable to shoot.
I just had cataract surgery so I've been going through my collection and taking them to the range to see how my new vision factors into my shooting ability.
All my Mark II's shoot Tac-22 and CCI standard velocity equally well.

They are great guns, my favorite it a little 4” Bull barrel one.

nice little 4 incher and like how you used two sets of thumb rest grips, a righty & a lefty , to make the gun have NO thumb rest and able for anyone who may be shooting with you, can use the gun,,,hated it when me being a lefty, could NOT let my other friends ,who went with us to the range ,and they being right handed could NOT shoot the gun??? we did the same you you did above ,worked for us all these years and could always put the thumb rest back on for any 'serious' competitive shooting.......one of the reasons I ended up actually shooting right handed , left eye dominant..:cool:;)(y)

Yeah, the MkII is fun & the ammo a plus, maybe fitting the event perfectly. But realizing I still love to shoot after thinking I'd lost all interest was the really happy place.

I've had a MkII Target for what seems like forever and a couple years ago picked up one of those NRA commemorative Standards with no box and rubber grips for a price too low to walk away from. One or the other goes on nearly every range trip.

I do wish I'd snagged one of the 4" HB's, it's a really good looking configuration.

Thanks, I got lucky and found the matching smooth left hand set on clearance at shopruger. I don’t think the smooth uncheckered ones came on many models.

I always thought they should have shipped with a complete set right and left or 2 non rest grips with a voucher to get whichever thumbrest you wanted.

I'm 3 eye surgeries in this year but hopeful for good vision soon myself. I have what I consider the best mkiis also. The stainless standard 4 1/2". Bull barrel 4" govt model 6 7/8 bull, heavy tapered 6 7/8 target pinto. All were assembled by me except the short standard and the govt model.

The short ones seem to multiply! MK2's a MK3 and a MK4... One is a FrankenRuger but it's the best of the bunch for field carry. It's a 22/45 upper on a KMK lower upgraded with a red dayglo front sight and a Volquartsen trigger.
