I quietly pay for breakfast quite often for veterans and active duty military. I also do coins for veterans.
One of the best ones was a few years ago when I saw a man wearing a hat with a 28th Division pin, a Combat Infantryman Badge Bronze Star and Sergeant's chevrons. I sat talking with him and got the server's attention. I paid my bill with his added to mine. He asked for his check and she told him it was taken care of. I told him that he paid that check in 1944 and it was an honor to have breakfast with him.
I later found out that he was the father of a friend of mine from school. I was at their house and saw a shadow board with his awards and rank and division in it. I told her that I had met a veteran from the 28th Division and bought him breakfast. She said "OMG! That was you"? Then she told me how much her dad appreciated what I did. I ordered a 28th Division coin and gave it to her for him. He passed at 98 years of age and his coin is buried with with him.
