I've been shooting my SB for a very long time and never had a fail to fire until last weekend. About one per cylinder load either had a light strike, or a WAY off-center strike, implying that the cylinder lock did not engage the notch.. This pistol is an older model with squared trigger guard and transfer bar. I'm not a pistolsmith and don't really want to mess with the disassembly unless it's something that's really easy to resolve. I'm very competent with tools but if this is something that needs a factory technician to resolve, I'm happy to send it to the folks at Ruger. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The cylinder latch's spring and plunger assembly lies in a semi vertical bore in the grip frame. I bet the spring is tired or "gunked up".

Perhaps the pawl spring is weak and is not keeping the pawl engaged with the ratchet at the rear of the cylinder. It lies within a "horizontal" bore in the cylinder frame, covered by the grip frame "ear".

So, do what I did, get out your owner's manual and take 'er apart.

Sounds like a thorough cleaning is in order. Take a good look at everything while doing that.
You never know what might be growing inside one of those shooters.
