Summer time at the Range

Do some of you skip the range days in the heat of summer? Here in NE FL it gets beastly hot!

Guy I usually go with is skipping it, at least this weekend due to the heat but sounded like the pause may be longer.
We were going early in the morning so I think it is not that bad then. Its busy around the time range opens but I'm still down to go even if going solo. Maybe it was something I did... LoL

Just curious if others are skipping it during the summer.

Just got a new Glock "out of hock": a G-44 22 lr. Seems really nice. Put Pearce finger extensions on my 4 mags and doing a Hi-Vis front sight tomorrow, Will order some "high performance defense" ammo to try besides my standard min-mags! Also looking for a holster today.

I have a half dozen Glocks. They are ugly, shoot every time you pull the trigger, are ugly, are plastic, are ugly, hit where they are pointed, and are ugly. Did I say they are ugly?

1. I noticed it is a little harder to rack than my other Glocks. Might just be the slide profile? Anyway, I ordered a Recover Tactical Slide Assist for it. I like them=not as obtrusive as others and don't dig into my side but give a better grip.
2. BTW: It fits my holster for my G43.

They are kind of ugly, did you say that? :cool: I was also looking at either the shield plus or Glock, there is just so damn many of them with the numbering and then gen 3, 4, 5. I think its the 19 Gen 5 would be the one I'd get. I just can't remember that every time I'm out at a gun bar with all the digits facing me! I can't remember the one I did check out but between a Gen 3 or 4 and the 5, I liked the grip better on the 5 since it doesn't have finger groves. Normally I like the groves but not on the Glocks I had held. I did like the way the ugly Gen 5 felt...
Also thanks for info on the G44 slide!

It is the 19 Gen 5. Maybe then a 19 and 44 which are like having the training and another matching training pistol.

I have a hard time being miserable in order to do something optional. I’m required to be miserable at work.

So while I don’t have a scheduled range day, I won’t go if its too hot, too cold, raining etc.

I get lazy in the heat, so the indoor range on Beach is 5 minutes from the house and when it hot I just go there.

I started to shoot my .41 BH ,,, down at the creek bed of rocks. Too darn hot. This was after the wind storm went thru. I had a break in the action. It was too hot to drink beer. Now, that’s hot.

If I'm gonna shoot this time of year it is early in the morning. I'll take a nice cold day in the fall and winter any time over hot crappy weather.

Tactical Umbrella's and stands or pop ups are popular this time of year at the local range. My patio is covered for shade and air conditioning is 10' away.

We shoot in the heat all summer here. Not everyone, just the hard core shooters. It was around 102 last week when I shot.

An ex snowbird asked a few weeks ago if we shot in the summer and we all said yes. He said we were nuts and left.

I shot my new Ranch Rifle this morning. Not so comfortable since the shade trees burnt out. Probably going to construct some sort of cover over the bench rather than wait 20 years for new saplings to provide shade.

The better half decided to get up early today and go to the beach with her friend so I went to the range.
Had two 10/22s I wanted to shoot at 25 yards. I found several 25yrd bays open and shot from under the awning, It was a good morning with my 22lr plan. The 25yrd bays also have plates setup for 15yrds but that is in the full sun. The 9mm and 686 never came out of the bag and I headed home to get out of the heat.

This time of the year at the range at 5:45 and usually done by 10:30, today it hit 120 degree.

Well, I cheat.
I own a range,, so I can shoot at my leisure.
When it's not fun, I don't do it.

But on Sundays,, I never allow any shooting prior to 1:00 pm, out of respect for the churches.

Earliest shooting time at all ranges (both indoor and outdoor) I have memberships at is 10am. This time of year I get to the outdoor range early so I can normally shoot @10am for an hour and leave before it gets too hot (because of humidity). Since I'm limited to what rifle calibers I can shoot indoors I try to get all of those in before the cold weather sets in then it's back indoors for mostly handgun shooting. The older (77 now) I get it seems the cold bothers me more than it used to.

Was at it again this past weekend, plan was to go 'early-ish' but I was set on letting the Mrs get her Sunday morning sleep as she has been putting in the hours, really both of us have. Had the 10/22 compact out, really enjoy the open Fire Sights on this short 16" barrel 10/22. Then sighted in the 10/20 Take Down that I swapped out the Barska plinker scope with a nice Vortex. Much better results and yes, you get what you pay for. Keeping the plinker scope, will just find a use for it on, on a budget build that is just for popping cans and stuff, not paper and potential nuisance critters.
Got the 686 out for a bit, but by that time was hot as heck and so sweaty it wasn't fun and with mediocre performance on my part called it a day.

Like you I was aiming for an early morning at the range yesterday. I had 2 of my 222's ( which I haven't fired since pre pandemic) and everything else set to go and then got involved in other stuff. I stepped outside after lunch & decided that it was not a good outdoor range day. Took 3 9x18's to the indoor range instead. Gotta love that A/C.

I get lazy about the outdoor range because of the drive and heat. Slip over to the indoor range about 7 PM, no one is usually there.

Shoot 100 rounds, back home in 45 minutes.

Makes me feel fortunate to live where I live, do what I do, and have what I have.
Hasn't been easy or cheap but I'm shooting off the bench I constructed 42 years ago right outside my backyard gate. The only wooden construction that survived the 11 /2/2022 fire in that area.
