I just picked up an SR556E which does not have a chrome lined barrel. I know each rifle will be a little different but do they generally group better with 55g or 62g ammunition. Do they generally group better with 5.56 ammo or 223? I know there are a million variables but was just trying to gather info. Thank you in advance for your help. This is also my first AR rifle.

How about you tell us if your gun shoots better with 223 or 5.56 by taking it to the range and shooting both, no two guns shoot the same so one may shoot best in your gun but not in some else's, honestly I really don't think you will see any difference unless it's between different brands of ammo.

ptechjpjr,

I have been shooting my "E" model with reloaded 223 primarily. Today I fired 50 rounds of 50 grain Hornady SST's and the target tells the story. I would not worry about the barrel not being chrome lined. I have a CMC drop in trigger that helps with accuracy greatly over stock Ruger trigger. I buy 223 ammunition and brass and try to stick with that over 5.56. I do this for consistency for reloading. I bet you will find that your rifle would perform fine with either. Post a picture of your rifle and a target. Would like to see how yours does.
