I've owned just about every major brand of 1911 out there and have been shooting them for over 50 years now, and while the early original Colts are my favorites, I think the Ruger SR1911 is the BEST VALUE in a 1911 on the market today. I've got 2 of them and they have been faultless. But if you want to pass on them because the price is too high, or a very few guys have had a bad front sight or some other minor issue, I respect your choice.

Just an update. Here is a pic from today with my camera phone while still at the range. According to the packing slip, this "new" replacement sight was installed on 14 Jun. It only lasted two stinking weeks this time (and I've been babying gun since I got it).

Just an update. Got a call from Ruger CSR. They're willing to install the fiber optic sight onto the slide at no additional cost. It did require supervisor authorization, but they're willing to do it for all trouble I've been through.
Just to be clear, I've never had a problem with Ruger CSR. This proves once again they're top notch, however the manufacturing side really needs to be find a better solution for this. It can't be cheap to service all these returns for what is a relatively cheap part. Seems to me their CSR would be pretty upset as well having to deal with this issue over and over again.

Mine broke yesterday on my commander they offered to ss d a shipper out and said that they would install the sight and test fire. I asked if they could just sendthe sight and if I could up grade to the fiber optic and if I could get a fiber optic for my govt model as well. The supervisor called me back into
Minutes and said sure no problem and they are sending it off 2nd day air. A lot of things make a company good or bad and if you want to write off a company because the got screwed on some out sourced parts or sit here and bad mouth a company every other thread then by all means go buy something. Different and then good luck. With your purchase. As to rev I read this post in hopes of getting Info from others who have had this problem. You have not and you obviously have no clue what Ruger does or how they treat their customers. All you do is sit their and cause problems. If you have nothing to add that can help then shut up you just stir the pot trying to get guys that are already upset even more mad so good something else. To the guys that this has happened to call Ruger if you have someone who can install the sight request the sight to be sent also request a different sight they have better sights that are not mim parts. Treat them like people and remember they are there to help it's not there fault and they will in turn treat you right and you'll feel a lot better when you get off the phone

Most guns sold don't get shot much at all. That's why Ruger does not recall all SR1911:s for a sight replacement.

If you want night sights now is a good time to do it. I called a d asked to upgrade to the fiber optic they offered to send a shipper out but I had them just send the sight. Now I wish I would have sent the gun in the fiber optic sights sit different than the standard sight and need a flat spot milled just in front of the dove tail if you upgrade to the Novak bar stock sight you will need to drill o hole for a role pin in the slide either option is much better than the original mom sight. Give Ruger a call and treat them like you want to be treated and you'll come out of this with a better gun and you'll be happty

Would any of you guys who have lost a front sight on a Ruger SR1911 (CMD) mind posting the 1st few digits of your serial number? I looked at 3 different new guns yesterday that had serial numbers beginning with 80XXX, 82XXX and 84XXX. I'm wondering if the guns with broken sights are all earlier guns than the 3 I saw yesterday. It would be interesting to see if the ones with broken sights are all in the same serial number range.
Edited to add: So far, I've seen serial numbers 26XXX, 45XXX, 46,XXX, 52,XXX, and 79XXX with broken front sights. Most have been earlier guns, except for the last one.

No, No, No it was in my safe and in a padded gun pouch. The Gun shot beautifully and accuratelly until the mishap! Can someone else kindly respond if they have heard of this defect?

My gun is of recent manufacture. I believe Apr or May of this year according to the factory test fire. This has been going on for over a year now. I think you'll find that the serial #s are probably irrelevant.
I just got my gun back this week with the fiber optic. It appears to be a very solid sight. Only had time this weekend to run about 80rds through it so it's a bit early to tell if my woes are over, but knock on wood.

It took about a week both times for me to get my gun back. Ruger was very good about this. They emailed me an UPS shipping label as soon as I got off the phone with them so I didn't absorb any shipping costs. Just had to package it up and drop it off at the right UPS drop off location.
I feel very bad for these folks who have take our phones calls about this issue. They're probably getting just as frustrated about this as well.

I hate to say it but add me to the list. I hadn't seen this thread yet but went to the range this past Friday and shooting in the area of probably my 6 to 7 hundred round and all the sudden no front sight. Really took me by surprise. I got mine back in probably Oct or Nov of last year. Love it. I was at the range the week before and one of the emblems fell out of the handle. When this happened I was really starting to get concerned. I know the emblem can just be re-glued. Its just that one thing and then another.
As for the sight falling/breaking off, I guess the thought that went through my head was, we worry about "will it fire," but I guess there are other things to consider when thinking of a carry pistol.

I am thinking that if I have to go through the pain/time to get the sight fixed, maybe I should get some nice optics type sights. Anyone have any that they have put on and are very happy with?

I put the fiber optics from Ruger on my commander and gov't model so far no problems and they each have over 500 on the new sights. I think they'll be just fine. Personally I can see why Ruger would go cheap on the front sight since most 1911 guys swap them out anyway. But I wanted to do when I was ready not when we had to the bonus was the fiber optic was free so it turned out OK for me and was just a inconvenience in all reality

Mine just broke today. I had just shot one magazine and was on my second shot of my second magazine (total rounds are about 200) of the day and I noticed it was gone when I tried to sight in my next shot.
Will be calling Ruger tomorrow.

What are the 1st couple of numbers of the serial number? Just wondering when your gun was made. The latest serial numbers I've seen are 86,XXX.
Been there and done that.
Ruger will stand behind that.
