Springfield Armory: Updated with Pics

After being on a waiting list at 3 different LGS for a SR1911for about a year, I'm throwing in the towel. At one of the LGS, they have a NIB SA 1911-A1 RO with Tritium Sights, Ambidextrous Safety for about $840 before Tax. Anyone here own a SA 1911-A1? Any problems with these Guns? Is the price OK?

BTW ... I have a lowly GI Springfield, and had a trigger job put on it. It has the best trigger of any 1911 I own, and shoots as good as my Gold Cups.

Springfield makes damn fine 1911's. I've been looking for a used RO for awhile now, but I'm patient.

My GI cost me $400 used from someone right here on the forum. One of the absolute best 1911's I own.

My Boss cut me loose this morning ( on the clock :D ) so I can pick up the Springfield ( He's a shooter Too! ), man am I a happy camper! That trigger is scheet :D . It came with a Holster, Mag pouch, some takedown tools and padded case. 9 Big ones OTD.

You won't be disappointed with the Range Officer, you did well. And with out starting another 5 page argument its a better pistol than what you were waiting for. And yes I do have both, and I like both, the range officer is better for what its worth.

The Night Sights are Trijicon with Chrome outline for day shooting.

It's a funny thing, I almost, almost traded in my P90, but I changed my mind at the last second..........................

Three 1911s were sent back for correction, I sold one fairly quickly after giving up on it. A 3" 1911 and an EMP didn't work from the 1st pull of the trigger. The extractors on the M1As didn't work, I replaced those on my own with a PB. SA paid the freight and fixed the problems on the 1911s, I've no quarrel with their customer service. But whatever I buy next probably won't be from SA. Maybe after a while I'll check them out again.

No worries, you're not raining on anyone's parade, heck I had to send Back to Ruger my P90 Four times, Mini-14 and my 44mag Blackhawk. I still own and shoot them :D .............................

Are all SA 1911's now made in Brazil?

The NM serial number series guns are at least assembled in America...I think the frames and slides are still made in Brazil, but shipped here for final assembly; they don't have any Brazilian markings. The N series guns have the Brazilian designation. I had a LW Champion Operator that had a LW serial number prefix, and it didn't have any Brazilian markings.

I have had a Range Officer...it is a very good gun. My only complaint was the adjustable sights. I bought it with the intention of changing them to fixed sights...only to find out after the fact that the sight cuts in the frame on this gun are not a standard cut, so the options for sights are limited and expensive. (That is on me, however...I should have done more research before I bought the gun.)

Springfield has excellent customer service. I don't think you can count on ANY line of guns being infallible these days, as a whole, even the long-vaunted Glocks. If you do have a problem with a SA, though, they have excellent CS.

From what I read about the SA, the NM are forged in Brazil and the Machining and Assembly are done Stateside..........................................

So there really won't be a quality issue with these pistols, as they are fitted in the US correct. Everytime I think Brazil Rossi and Taurus jump into my brain

I own 5 of them and have never had any problems. My everyday carry is a TRP that I have put 8000 rounds down the tube. I do believe I could pound a rock into a 45 case and this gun would cycle and fire it :D .

From what I read, I have the Loaded Model, the loaded model is a Range Officer with some upgrades. Last Thursday I didn't really know anything about Springfield Armory 1911s, I literally took a crash course in learning all I can about SA........................................

Yep, that's a Loaded, not a RO. The "NM" prefix Loaded guns I've handled were very well built, good triggers, definitely looked like more attention had been paid to final assembly and fit. Some of the other Loaded guns without the NM prefix were a little rough, although not all of them were.

I had a Loaded "MC Operator" that was fit like a custom. It was the tightest production gun I've handled, Baer-like in its fit. It shot like a house-a-fire. Whoever put that gun together was shootin' for a promotion. Unfortunately, it got burgled and is now probably being abused by some pants dragging neanderthal...

Yup ... RO's have adj sights.

The 'Loaded's' are great guns as well.

This is a perfect example of what an $800-900 1911 should be.

I could not group at 25yds with either my P90 or P354, I was able to group 1-1/2 to 2" with less fliers than I did with the Ps. I'm not saying anytyhing about the SR1911 as I have not shot, felt or even seen one around these parts................................

Congrats on the loaded model, better than the ro IMO.. I have a TRP that will never be sold.. Slide to frame fit is almost seamless, they feel like they are riding on bearings.

I think Springfield gives you a lot of gun for your money, and I really love that big ol' case with all the goodies. I've got a Range Officer, three Kimbers, and a Series 70 Colt. The Colt is my favorite to look at and the RO has become my favorite to shoot. It's just a nice gun all around.

Chief doesn't HAVE a Range Officer ... he has a standard "Loaded" model.

The Loaded "Target" models have adjustable sights, from what I understand. The standard "loaded" models have fixed sights.

Springfield's designations are sometimes very confusing.

Here's what my lowly GI model with a few inexpensive mods can do .... by the way ... talk about confusing ... my gun below says right on the factory box that it's a "MilSpec", yet it's NOT a MilSpec in today's terms ... it's a GI model ... which is now below "today's" MilSpec. I called Springfield about it and the lady told me ... yeah ... the GI "Used to be called" the "MilSpec", but now it's just the GI, and the current MilSpec is the next model up .... very confusing.
