Speaking of Pork

I was at our locally owned grocery store today that caters mostly to yuppies and such but sell as much produce and items that are locally grown and so my wife and I try to support it.
I was looking in the meat department for something to cook in case our German friends can come over this weekend and saw a package of Bratwurst... pork, but here was the intestine part.

It said, and I quote, "made with pork from Animals"

That's good to know......

Oh believe me those signs are necessary. One customer had a woman walk into a double door and break her nose. Apparently the sign that said out on one side and in on the other wasn't enough. So they put great big push and pull signs. Yep, you guessed it another brilliant female then planted her face on the door and broke some facial bones. The final solution was to remove the door.

Well sort of, codes required a door there. So they spent a small fortune putting in an automatic sliding door. And miracle of miracles someone walked right into it. So what did all of these folks have in common? You've all already guessed it, they were on their phones.

Especially when you are looking in the mirror.... had one of those days yesterday....
running wire through a wall for a duct booster fan... needs box in the wall for a thermostat switch and I cut the hole right over a stud even though I measured it.


As or the Pork from animals....
Actually, my spell check/corrector kind of got close on that one.
I bought a pack of hot dogs last week and it said they were made with natural casings....
I'm assuming I know what that means and it kind of goes toward my original misspelling.

Today's internet news included an article stating that consumers are increasingly purchasing pork sausage in preference to beef. It's interesting - I started buying Texas-made sausages a couple of months ago and now I'm hooked on them.

I still like beef and chicken, but those pork sausage links - 7-to-the-package - for $2.60 a pack (on sale) is a great value.

If one looks hard enough and far enough they can find "meat" of all sorts made from plants. Talk about "ultraprocessed".

I grew up with Bob Evans sausage; loved it and it was my brand. Then over a relatively short period of time the taste changed, they stopped using natural casing and it didn't even cook up the same. Came to find out the Evans family sold out and it was now just another corporate product looking for the biggest return for the cheapest product. I must have tried every brand in this area looking for decent sausage. Found some that was edible but finally tried Swaggerty's and it's pretty darned good. Still no natural casings though.

In Ohio I could go to any of several local butchers and get really good fresh sausage in natural casings and it came in long coils. Moved to Illinois and they don't know what fresh sausage is. They had the long coils but it was Italian, polish etc and when I asked for just plain fresh sausage I would get the deer in the headlights stare. A local butcher asked if I meant breakfast sausage and that he could make me up some in large links. Oh Boy; until I tried it. So full of garlic it was inedible.

I'm pretty sure I've read or seen somewhere that you can actually grow meat now and don't have to kill an animal... I guess except for the original one... then again, maybe you just chop a hunk off and plant it..... I presume it grows as mentioned above in a big vat.... So, I'm presuming that is the real reason for the "pork from an Animal" statement. These bratwurst also were made with 'natural casings'. The meat is from North Carolina just up the road a bit from me.... I cooked them last night and they were damn good.
