Don't basketball players have to dribble the ball while moving? I get my fill of 'sports' on the evening news so not up on the regs but seems that it's common for the players to carry the ball some distance w/o dribbling--often 4-5 strides. :unsure: :oops:

4-5 strides but also they turn it over (palm it) with a couple strides between dribbles. I stopped watching the NBA about 10 years ago. College is even worse.
. . . and the girls' teams, too. :rolleyes: That used to be called "travelling".

I umped baseball for over two decades and reffed bassetball for ten years.
In bassetball, the show has become more important than the game. If you call travels or many fouls, coaches and fans start screaming, "Let 'em play." Never heard that at a single baseball or softball game. You never hear anyone at a football game screaming, "that was just a little facemask!"
I think that things really started to go downhill in bassetball when dunks became legal.

Yep, you learn all the rules, then watch the pros break them and nobody cares.
Think they should raise the net to 12 feet, now that the players are 7 feet tall.

Pretty much only in basketball. In baseball, the only controversial "adjustment" is the phantom tag.
That's because the officials are employed by the league or conference and follow their direction. The league says, "ignore travels by the stars," that's what you do. The conference says to ignore hand checks, that's what you do.

One thing I've noticed. Except for hockey, none of the refs in sports seem capable of playing the sport. And I only give hockey a break because the refs do have to know how to skate. It's like a take on the old expression, "those that can do, those that can't referee".

That's like saying lawyers should all be criminals or doctors should have broken bones or cancer.
All of you experts like to criticize sports officials but none are willing to actually go through the training and do the job.
Well, many lawyers are criminals, or at least as unscrupulous as criminals, they just hide it better. And quite frequently folks are motivated to become doctors due to medical issues in the past. I have an excellent example of the latter in my family.

Most coaches can't play worth a damn but you sportlers worship coaches and are willing to felate them because they brought home some trophy.
Go get trained and call a few games otherwise just stuff your opinion up your hairless ass.
