sp 101 lockup

Bought a used sp 101 that the owner said hadn't been shot much. It was very clean. Took it out last Sunday and had about 1/2 box thru it. After about the 3rd reload, I noticed the extraction got tougher, much tougher as I continued. Before finishing the box, the cylinder would no longer go into frame. Brushed it for lead removal, still no luck.
Tonight, I took it back out and noticed the crane is popping forward from the frame; the gun is fully assembled. Dis assembled the gun (not my first time) everything is where it is supposed to be. ???? Any ideas?

The guy that sold it to you knew about this problem and didn't say anything. Nice of him. The crane is held in place by a spring-loaded plunger at the front of the trigger assembly. The plunger is staked in place. I've never seen one come out by itself but I suppose it is possible. Have another look.

Checked ejector, cleaned with compressed air. The staked plunger is still there. Re assembled gun, no luck. Crane still moves forward from the frame slightly, enough to not let the cylinder engage. Have never sent a gun back to Ruger. Will they warranty the gun, how much does this cost me? Thanks

But let me ask is the crane sliding forward on it`s own or are you applying pressure of sorts while closing ???

Some type of burr on frame or crane, & is the rear center pin stuck from foulin/burr/other??

I think the center pin has a burr on it. I've worked it some and it has gotten easier but still pretty rough. The crane seems to move out on it's own. The pawl spring has broken in half, with half remaining in trigger group. Rebound spring and plunger is now stuck with a serious burr by trigger. I cannot remove or am afraid to in fear of damaging something.
I have had Rugers for years, without any problems and in fact am buying another GP on Thursday, it seems that this sp has issues and will be sent back. Thanks for the help.

I'm wondering if you actually mean that the ejector is sticking out of the cylinder? That would be a part of the cylinder. The crane is held into the frame by the crane locking plunger inside the trigger group.

Almost all GP and SP models suffer from rough ejector operation until the burrs and sharp edges are removed. You will need a special tool to remove the ejector. Broken pawl spring: someone has assembled the pawl incorrectly and crunched the pawl spring. Easy to do, since these parts will fly out if they are not held in place during assembly. Go slowly.

Finally got the gun running. Called Ruger service, they said send it in, but it would be 3-4 week turn after they got it. Just wasn't ready to admit defeat. Took one more stab at it and did a total dis assembly, stoned and polished all internals. Several burrs and tool marks were found, fixed spring. Put it back together, runs like a top. Thanks for the help.
