Hello all,
Since the mid 1990s I’ve hunted occasionally with a 1972 Marlin 1895 .45-70.
It’s one of my favorites to shoot, but hard on fur for a dedicated predator caller.
In the last two years I’ve picked up two more 1895s with the cross-bolt safety.
Twice in two sessions with cross-bolt safety equipped Marlins at the local range, I’ve experienced a sinking feeling upon pulling the trigger on a live round, only to hear the CLICK of the hammer falling on the hammer block, just like it is supposed to.
I purchased two Cross-bolt Safety Delete fillers today from Beartooth Mercantile out of Cody WY.
“BG” was great to work with, leaving the safety-deletes outside the shop for me since he had to be gone. I’m local, dropped by and left cash in place of the safeties. Texted him a photo of the cash I left.
Upon arriving home, I checked YouTube for a video on how to remove the cross bolt and install the Delete. I was done in about 20 minutes for both.
I did two Ruger/Marlin Stainless Model 1895s, an SBL (.500 Linebaugh conversion) and a Trapper .45-70.
There is NO CHANCE now of a “CLICK” instead of a “BOOM” because the cross-bolt safety was accidentally engaged or forgotten to be disengaged when hunting timber or edges in Grizzly Country.
That’s more Peace of Mind than a can of bear spray.
