For a while now I have had an itch about my M1 Carbine.

Don't know what, but something got me going this afternoon. I cleaned it, (BOY DID
IT NEED THAT), use a coat of Slipstream, and went hunting for the ammo I was
sure was around the house. - - - DANG! Did it ever need cleaning!

Got all the grease (wrong stuff for it) cleaned out, and replaced it with the Slipstream
and it is amazing! Changed the tone of the action, made it MUCH smoother, and
made me a happy camper! I mentioned in another thread that I had ordered some
Wolf springs for the magazines (no ship date, yet) and went looking for some ten
round mag's. Found them at Midway at a "reasonable" price and ended up having
to do some maintenance on my information with Midway. By the time all the dust
settled, I ended up with two new (on order) fifteen round mags, for a "discount" that
paid for the shipping!

Just shows to go ya, doing the right things, for the right reason, makes you happy! 8)

Those guns are just not friendly to left handed people. I’ve tried, and the hot empties flying an inch in front of my nose wasn’t fun.

Glad you got your rifle cleaned up. And what is Slipstream? Google had lots of listings but nothing about what is used to clean a gun.

Glad you asked about slipstream. I too was wondering....as a lefty..if M1 is difficult..how is an AR? A left handed friend asked if it was worth seeking out a left handed upper.

Lefty shooters need to be aware that virtually all modern right-handed arms are designed to "safely" vent any gas leakage, out-of-battery shrapnel, etc. out the right side of the rifle---into a lefty's face. I think it is definitely worth finding a left-handed upper.

Crusader Weaponry: Seems to have gone into the either. I got mine several years
ago (about $20 for two ounces  ) and bought another bottle of it a year later.
Now I can't find any place that sells it.

AMAZING stuff, if you can find any.

P.S. It took about four drops to do the entire M1 Carbine.

My SIL flat out LOVES it (as do I) but it seems to not be available.
MAJOR . . . SIGH!

Shooting a rifle should be more about eye dominance than hand dominance. I’m left eyed but right handed. I learned to shoot lefty but quickly realized I was better off shooting righty. Most just aren’t lefty friendly. So I definitely see your issue. My son is left handed and I taught him to shoot righty.

Watching Saving Private Ryan, it’s painful to watch the sniper shoot his 03/a3 lefty.

I know not all lefties can switch but it’s worth a try. I think my kids and I are more ambidextrous than most.

Back to the m1’s. Mine is just a Universal carbine with no military pedigree, but it needs to be shot for sure it’s been 30 years or so.

I'm Left handed of necessity and have no problem with either the M1 or carbine.

As to the AR, if you look at the receiver just behind the ejection port you see a
triangular extension, that gets a bit of brass transfer as you shoot.
As it was explained to me, that was added to have the ejected brass clear the
face of Left handed shooters.
