Well you for one are not BS'ing with your log book data.
I think a lot of people way over estimate how much they really do shoot.
Pretty cool post even though I don't track the # of rounds I fire off.

Most of my guns are used, so I will never know what previous owners/users put through them before I got them. I got good at rough estimates!

I like seeing an avid shooter with high round counts like that, the guns still look gorgeous It shows that it's OK to actually use your guns! 8)

Good record keeping. All I know for rounds fired is that the 50,000 Federal 150 primers I bought during the Clinton primer scare just ran out. The last 900 went into .45 auto brass. The rest went into .45 Colt or .45 auto.

Also, what I do know now is OUCH, what those primers cost per K then as opposed to now is outragous. Been watching prices the last 4 years in hopes the price dropped before the stash ran out.

I cannot believe that anyone is so anal as to count the total amount of shots fired in any weapon. I go to the range with a BIG box of ammo and when it starts getting low I get some more. :wink:

Call me anal if you wish, its not really hard to count. When I get home from a session, I count the empty cases. I carry guns of different calibers, so I know all .357s were fired in one, all .44s in the other. So, really, I don't have to be in any hurry logging in, just as long as its before the cases go into the cleaner.

And, all data is on my cartridge box.

I got this idea from the Army. I had two 106mm recoiless rifles in my charge, and accurate firing had to be kept on these as there was a limit on the number of rounds fired before they could not be used in firing overhead of friendly troops.

So, seemed like a good idea at the time. And, what's the harm?

I am with you that there is no harm. I just don't have the patience to do that either. My ammo lives in ammo cans that hold 1500-2000 per can, and keeping an accurate count is a pain in the butt. I wish I had the patience to do that.

I think the comment was a bit tongue in cheek.

My son joined the Navy 4 years ago, and became a different person than he was. Everything of his is now neat, clean, and properly folded and put away. I understand the military influence after seeing it change my previous sloppy bachelor son into a sharp, squared away Navy Medic.

I don't count rounds either per gun .... or even per year. Just 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6... Time to eject the empties . Darn, another 100 down...

I had to count numbers for a bolt gun in the USMC...that was enough for me. I hated log books, range cards, etc....BUT I certainly understand the value of such data. Good on ya man! Just not for me in my civilian mode.

I'd be so lucky as to "wear out" a Ruger by shooting it...

I don't count mine either. I do keep track of the number of primers I go through though. My target and varmint rifles do get an accurate count though.
