It's maple I believe.

Maple? Looks more like walnut, to me.

But as t asking our opinion, ask you hand's opinion. that's what counts. From the photos, they look fine and you apparently did a good job on them.

I used to make grips with a beautiful flair at the bottom. They looked great and felt good,,,,,,,,,, until you shot them.
Now days I prefer them to taper in at the bottom. At least that works for me.

Thicker along the backstrap, tapering toward the front.

That’s correct thick along the back strap and tapers to the front very comfortable in the hand. I took the idea from a pair of Wiley Clapp 1911 grips

That is where my liking in grips has evolved to. Wider in back helps with recoil distribution. Tapered toward the front takes some of the bulk out and I find helps control twist.

Well, here are the grips on the frame on the gun whole package. It's a 71 year gun convertible 45 colt 45 ACP.

Beautiful! Loving that grain! And a little jealous of your connection for the wood scraps.

Agreed, looks like a very pronounced tiger( fiddleback) maple but I’m no expert. Very nice work MM
