I don't see much about soft point bullets. It seems to be either hollow points or cast lead.
Is there a problem with soft points?

I don't load very many jacketed bullets, but for those that you mention I do load some Sierra 158 gr jsp's in .38 spl and .357 mag. I do like the Sierra bullets.

Not a thing wrong with soft points at all I use them all the time, but mostly for my rifle loads for Winchesters due to the tubular magazine, the ones that are in hand gun cals. work well in both rifle and revolver, years ago soft points were real popular for revolver loads, I think bullet manufactures shifted the interest to the use of more hollow points than soft points, I remember back in the 70's buying 357 mags. there was always a bigger selection of soft points at the store than hollow points.

I decide what work I want a bullet to do, then pick the best bullet for the specified work.

If I was hunting hogs or bigger deer with a 357 mag, I'd probably at least try SP bullets. The results I've seen so far indicate more penetration with less expansion than a HP of the same weight. I've shot several deer using 240 JSP in a 44 Special and patently seen zero expansion with a nearly intact bullet(if it stayed inside the deer). I no longer use a 44SP for hunting but would choose a 240 HP if I were hunting deer with my 44 mag.
I'm just not a cast bullet hunter kind of guy. I carried 245 grain hard cast SWC in the 44 Sp on a trip to bear country mostly because I had those to handload to a level I was comfortable facing a bear with.

I use JSP in my Sp-101 in 125 gr. for SD, and 158 gr. for woods bumming in the lower 48, if I can't get the 158 gr lswc.
