Went window shoping last couple of days.I've had the itch to buy a new handgun for a while now.I was leaning toward a larger cal. carry gun like a .40 ( I carry an LCP ) Took my 15 yr. old son to gander MT. to peek under the glass. One revolver that caught our eye , almost at the same time I might add , was the ruger single six stainless steel with the 6.5" barrel. What a great looking gun, and an awsome teaching gun for my boy. Did some research on it that night and motored off to bass pro shop to buy one the next day. They only had the display model left so I have to wait a couple of days for a new one to ship. Dont know who is more excited to shoot it, my son or me!! Early X-mass to us.

A most wonderful handgun to share with a son ! Like the 50gr Federal Hp, for what I think is the most lethal load for this platform. The Winchester WRF for less expensive use of mag cylinder, and which ever 40gr HP in LR you prefer. Enjoy. steve b

They wouldn't sell the display gun? Usually you can get a couple of bucks knocked off the selling price that way. At least I would have tried!
It is a great gun for both of you and will become a family treasure to pass down to your son when he becomes old enough.
Congratulations!

As the others have said, the Super Single Six is an excellent gun for a young shooter. My dad started me off with one when I was a teenager and I am very glad he did.

Also, welcome to this forum. It is a great place to spend some time. I take it from your post that you live in the Pontiac area???

The very first handgun I bought when I turned 21. Still have it. They didn't have SS then.

You have a winner.

(pssssst ... I'll bet you end up using it a LOT more than you think! 8) )

It's what I learned to shoot with as well, 'cept it was an old 3-screw my dad bought new, at KMart of all places, back in the late 60's when he was in college.

I'll echo the above comments!

Many father/son memories have been made with a Ruger Single Six and a brick of .22s. I plan to make some with my son when he's of age; he's three and a half now.

Congrats on a great choice, you guys will love it!

:D

The display gun was a little banged up. It had a scratch on the grip and some more on the frame (and thats with no eyeglasses) . If there are going to be some imperfections I want to make them myself. Really wanted to bring one home, but I guess I can wait a few days for clean one .
