Hey all. I have an old Single Six here (my first handgun),that needs some sprucing up. I wore this thing in a drop holster fishing and hunting for years. There for it's pretty rough in the grip. The rest of the gun is perfect as the holster fit quite nicely and was lined. So,If I wanted to re stock it,complete with a new backstrap. The orriginal has had all the finish removed. It was so chipped up it looked worse than striped, and I don't like it striped. Is there a birdhead option available to me for the S-Six?

I'm no expert, Festus, but I'm sure they are available. There is this one from Midway:

If your Single Six is an older model it may not fit.

I'm sure someone more in the know than me will chime in.

Hey thanks. I bought it new in 83. I don't know if that's an old one or not. Either way it needs some kind of restoration in the grip department. Thr birdhead would be my first choice of options. Another would be ceracoating the orriginal grip frame and a new set of panels. The rest of the gun is beautiful but the butt took it on the nose. Too many trips to camp, fishing, hunting and just stomping around in the brush..

Any factory Ruger birdshard grip frame will fit any NM ('73-current). Fitting would be needed as wold finishing. the rest is a straight change. keep in mind, that those not fitted/finished will need the grip locator pin and trigger spring retaining pin too. MUCH easier to buy new ones @ $2-3 each than try and reuse the existing ones.

:) Have a steel one that'll eventually be on a NM flattop and brass birds head that needs to go off and be fitted to a .32 mag. :) Someday.
