I shoot a lot of Federal bulk out of my 22's. revolvers, semi-autos, bolt action, etc..... In fact the best 50 yard group I ever shot in my Marlin 880SQ was shot with Federal bulk.

My favorite Brew too :D I actually shot a 40x40 in IHMSA small bore using Federal bulk pack. Of course Brenda Lea and I are blessed with two great small bores, a Ruger Single Six Custom and a Remington 541S that I gave her as a present when we were young.

I had the best results out of my Single Six and other .22s using Federal bulk pack ammo. Winchester, eh, not so much.

Nice Single Six!

How did that bulk Federal ammo perform for you?
Any mis-fires.?
Been hearing things.

The posts tell of others having great results. Myself I'm not real happy with this ammo in the two firearms I've tried but so far no misfires. The Federals I'm using are Lot #1BH701, Load No. 750.

I went out yestereday to try several brands of ammo in my Marlin 780. This is one that doesn't shoot them much either, about 2" at 50 yards.

The Super Single Six was fired from the forearm rest on which I fired the Marlin. The rest was steady but I could have been more so as I fired with my wrist resting on the Caldwell Rock. So the SSS groups could have been tighter. But the fact remains the Marlin nor the Ruger did well with this load.

SSS Target fired at 25 yards, 3 1/4" if you throw out the high round which was most likely a sighting error. Let me fess up though I shot this at the end of the session having fired over a 100 rounds through the Marlin. But earlier trips to the woods & range tell me this isn't the ammo for MY Ruger & Marlin. But as told my others here, each firearm can be a rule of there own.

Federal bulk 22's I use a lot for plinking. Not for serious target shooting. They tend to scatter a bit out of the single-six. Does a bit better out of a rifle, but not stellar. I get more duds from the Remington bulk boxes, although the Remington do a bit better for acuracy.

I've never been able to get factory Single-Sixes to group. I know others have strong shooters out of the box, but the few I've worked with were horrible; even after re-cutting the cone, mild free-boring, and top shelf ammo. I eventually made a new cylinder and installed a piece of Shilen barrel blank:

The thing drives tacks now, even with non-premium 22 LR ammunition.

Lee this one wouldn't group under 2 1/2" at 25 yards so a few years ago I purchased a 10/22 Ruger barrel which are very cheap & easy to come by, cut a 6 1/2" section, threaded & screwed that thing on there. Shoots fine now.

If you look close you can see not quite all the warning was machined from the old barrel. The nice thing about all this was I didn’t need to reblue.

Have you guys tried Paco Kelly's "Accurizer", the thing that allows you to squash the bullet slightly to allow better purchse in the rifling? Never tried it myself, but I'm curious as to whether it would help with the "problem" Single Sixes that just won't group.

Did you shoot your empties with the single six?

I brought mine home but there were plenty left by the trash hounds to shoot which I did.

Manage our range, at least the lazy b-ms started using the trash can (most of the time) :x I don't look like a woman but I guess I must look like their mother. (GOD help her if I do) That would be since I have to pick up after them all of the time.

It's pretty much a problem every where I go except White Horse, that place is clean.

The range at the fish & game club I belong to is always trashed, especially right before deer season when all the booger eaters are sighting in their slug guns....Even worse now that someone had the bright idea to remove the trash cans so people would take their trash home....yeah right

I like bulk Federals. I haven't been impressed with either Remington or Winchester. The Remingtons I've used had more duds, and rounds that audibly and through felt recoil varried noticably. The Winchesters I've used haven't shot as well as the bulk Federals. Offhand at 25 yds I can get 6 shot groups under 4" pretty often, and while a sub-3" group is certainly a good one, it happens often enough for me to know the gun (Single Six NM) certainly outshoots me.

I help manage our local range. I can handle most things but a few months ago I lost it when I walked out and saw somebody had shot up 3 pet rabbits.

I have pretty good reliability from the Federal bulk pack stuff. I've shot some steel challenge matches with it even. I really don't have misfires with it in my MKIII Competition model.

Ugh! Haven't been to a public range in 25+ years... I guess a lot's changed. I just don't have any tolerance for that kind of nonsense anymore.

Pete I belong to a club which is a good place to shoot but I can go to the public range in half the time. Its limited to 185 yards but is handy. I normally go through the week during bad weather. This keeps the Rambos away & normally only the diehards are there or I'm alone.
