Single Six, .327... in shop... curious...

I was in my transfer FFL dealer shop yesterday. Pawn shop but he gets in amazing amounts of guns. And a friend of his had died and the widow called him and asked him to sell the guns for a commission. I bought two yesterday. A 1978 S&W M41 in perfect shape. And a NIB .380 Seecamp. He had another ten or so handguns. I was tempted by a CZ-75B, NIB, made in Czech. But he wanted $550 for it and I really have no use for another full size 9mm. It would just be "for the collection because it is such an important design." Which is a valid reason... but hard to justify at this point.

Anyway, he also had a NIB Ruger Single Six with the shorter barrel, I suppose 4 5/8ths. .327 Federal. I have several Single Sixes in .32 Magnum but no .327's. I've been meaning to buy a full size GP-100 in .327 but haven't gotten around to it yet. If he had thrown out a friend price I might have taken it home but he wanted... I think he said $550 or $600 which seemed close to retail to me. But then I came home and looked on Bud's and they are Out of Stock. Is Ruger still making them at all? (I'm used to calling this frame size the Single Six but I suppose all the .327's are Single Sevens?)

You know what it is like when something like that scrolls past your eyes... you think about it later and wonder if you should have jumped on it! I prefer to buy guns that I think I can enjoy owning now but someday sell for more money in the future. If it had been one of the longer barreled ones, I might have bitten.

The official name is "New Model Single Six - Single Seven". If you're still thinking about it now, you should buy it if you can: "The sting of not buying when you could have far outlasts the sting of the price!"

Was it blue or stainless? The blue versions are only made with standard adjustable sights (instead of the green glow) and are the model 08165 plow handle, short barrel, custom front sight, and the model 08164 5 1/2" Bisley model, both relatively new. All the Single Sevens are Lipsey distributor exclusives and are limited production which you likely know already. So they can be discontinued at any time.

For resale later, generally the short barrels are usually in greater demand.

It was stainless. Looked absolutely NIB, everything there, little yellow disk in place. I just wasn’t sure what they were worth... I need to go look on GB.

It and the boxed CZ-75 looked like guns that were bought and then put in storage and never looked at again. The CZ even had the original BOS in the box. I saw it said $535.xx but I didn’t see a date before the dealer closed the box again.

I've been wanting to try the single seven in a birdshead grip, they look like neat little guns. 327's are getting hard to find.

I like that birdshead no sights, pretty little gun. Been watching the few I found going away on GB. Everyone else I contacted says out of stock, don't know if discontinued. Surprised at the prices for single 7s seems high to me but the 8163 I'm watching has sold 11 of the 16 I found last week.

I gave up and called him this morning. Told him I would take the CZ and the Ruger 327. He took $50 off as a bundle price. These are OTD, no paperwork or taxes. Cash only sales. Obviously no shipping or FFL transfer fees... so I just can’t shake the feeling I can get my money back down the road.

Since I went into the shop in the first place to pick up the Ruger MKII I had shipped to him from a sale from the Ruger Forums... that means five handguns in four days. That’s my all time record.

There is nothing wrong with that. These guns are private sale within the state. They were never on his books. Straight "private consignment." If I bought some handguns from my across the street neighbor, you think I need to fill out a 4473, pay taxes, get permission, etc?

We don't all live in New Jersey or California...

About six months ago I gave my neighbor a Dakota SAA .45. No taxs, paperwork or even cash. I am crippled up
and he had been doing free gratis work for me like cooler prep on our roof, shoveled snow etc.

And no, I don’t think you need to fill out a 4473 to purchase a gun from your neighbor.

Now if we could get Ruger to produce a rifle in 327, even a limited run. Ruger is the co inventer of the cartridge after all. A K1A or 1A would come live here if they make one. What was that one-of 1A in 32 something made up for some General, in the Clayton book I can't get to right now

I took it from your original post that the guns were for sale in his shop. If that was a mistake, I apologize.

They weren’t his guns. They aren’t in his book. If he had bought them and logged them in, then we have to do the dance. But the legal owner of the guns asked him to inquire of his customers if any of them would like to buy these guns as a private sale. I know, it can get gray when you get into this sort of thing. It’s not like I was trying to avoid the paperwork... I was in his shop in the first place to complete a transfer on Friday. Filled out a 4473, got the Proceed on the background check. God knows how many 4473’s he has on file with my name on them. So there is no prohibited person in this picture. The no tax... back to the private sale... he didn’t own them, he wasn’t selling them... he’s just in the middle.

In any case, doing it that way did make it a lot easier to buy since it lowers my cost. If I decide to sell one or more down the road, it will be easier to make a profit.

I own a lot of stocks and bonds... the older I get, the more I like to invest in things like guns. WB always says to invest in what you know... I know guns!

Re: rifle in .327

You could just get MGM to make you a custom Contender rifle barrel. I had a custom 12” Contender barrel made by them earlier this year. Probably the best Contender barrel I own. I have thousands of rounds of loaded .357 SIG and coffee cans full of brass. I thought a 12” stainless Contender barrel with a nice Burris variable scope would be a great ranch gun. So far I’m very pleased.

A No. 1 in 327 seems excessive. I have a Martini Cadet that is a take down that one day will have a .327 barrel and extractor fitted to it. All I need is time.

If one could find one in the original .310 Cadet caliber in poor shape, it might be possible to ream directly to .327 without any other modifications. A number were done this way to .32-20 when they were being imported.

I realize this is an old thread, but I went back to read some old stuff about 327s while I'm home with the 'vid, and as I saw the comment about a #1 chambered in 327. Once again I thought how perfect a #3 would be in 327. It was smaller and lighter, but would be more than adequate for the Queen of the Thirty- twos, don't you think? They were made in 22 Hornet, so it would be just a small change to tool up and make them for 327. Discontinuing the #3 was one of the saddest events in Ruger history.:(

I did buy the Single Seven in .327 Stainless. Brought it home and admired it... been in the safe ever since. Couldn't bring myself to shoot it since I have several guns "like" that already.

I also bought the CZ75 Omega and that was the surprise to me. I had shot one before and it nothing clicked. But this time it did. I bought several of the 19 round mags for it, I shoot it all the time. That is a nice gun. Too big for me to actually carry but it is fun to shoot on my home range.
