Shotgun question

Please be nice as this is a non Ruger information request.
I am looking for information on New England Gun Co. 12 guage shotgun that has a 40" barrel. I have Googled and found New England Firearms and a few other similar names but nothing indicating connection to New England Gun Co.
I have tried a few gunsmith but none have been able to help. I am hoping that some knowledgeable individual (which I know there are some here) will be able to help me out.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I was in New England Firearms site but did not see anywhere that they used New England Gun Co on any of their firearms. This gun has New England Gun Co. stamped into it.

J Stevens (a division of Savage) rebranded their model 94 too. They were in Chicopee Falls Mass.

I strongly doubt New England Gun co was its own entity. Its a rebranded gun, either H&R or Savage, are the most likely candidates.

Its like $50 gun even in pristine condition.

That’s just a training facility. Not related to any manufacturer.

I think H&R ended up with Marlin who was bought by Remington. Who stopped making the shotguns.

As you’re finding ….. what’s stamped isn’t always “cut and dried”; especially if it’s an older weapon before the GCA.

It is a dandy rabbit hole! Mergers, take overs, bankruptcy and I am sure lost information each and every time. I don't think they were a separate entity either, but would have thought they would list what names they built under.
Was my grandfather's gun and he has been gone since 1979 and it wasn't new then. Would like you have an idea when it was made and who made it. I may be out if luck.
I will contact a few more places and see if I learn any more.

I thought you were looking for parts. I’m glad you have your Grandfather’s gun. Its worth far more to you than anyone else. Cherish it.

Your best bet is to seek out other single barrel shotguns until You find one that matches yours. At least then you will know the manufacturer.

Way back when, many manufactures would make cheap single shots and doubles and put a name on them for hardware stores, chain stores, mail order catalogs etc. Iver johnson, Cresent, Fulton, Stevens, Savage come to mind and there were more I am sure that are now long gone. Seems that longer barrels were popular then. I have seen several 36" barreled single shots, but never a 40". I believe they called them Long Toms. Not real sure where you could find info on who actually made your gun.

I post pictures directly from my phone. It's so easy even I could do it after a year or so. Attach files, select from pictures and albums select picture/pictures.

Yeah, you don't need an interim picture storage account. I am a super computer idiot and I can go it. In your thread just go to picture on your PC or laptop, select file then picture, and it will ask if you want to attach. Click on that and you're done. Works for me.

Wow! I’ve never seen one with a 40” barrel.
Crescent used to make a Long Tom with a 36” barrel and I owned a Marlin Goose Gun (Bolt action) with a 36” barrel but I’ve never even heard of a 40”.

Does it look anything like this? Diamond Arms St. Louis. Made by either Steven's, H & R or Ivers Johnson and sold as a trade gun. This one was sold by Shapleigh Hardware of St. Louis, Missouri. Mine dates in the 30's, I believe. 30" barrel single shot 12 gauge. Still a shooter but kicks like a pissed off mule.

Definitely a Goose gun. Close ups of all factory markings, side plates, lug details would help narrow it down. There were a handful of manufacturers but hundreds of brands.

Here is the only marking other than the number, which is consistent on all 3 pieces.

Wow! That is the least fancy manufacturing stamping I’ve ever seen on a gun.

I'll take a guess and say it was made by Hopkins and Allen for a hardware store that wanted a name that would insinuate high quality. New England Gun Company sounds like a solid establishment. That's a pretty good guess I think.
