Has anyone here ever made a short Ruger Bisley frame before? I'm talking about removing stock from the bottom so the front strap is the same length as a XR3 grip frame. This would make it more closer to a NO. 5 grip frame. I would say removing about 3/8" would be about right.
If you have done this or had it done for you I would like to here about it or even see some pictures.

In Hamilton Bowen's excellent book, THE CUSTOM REVOLVER, he shows examples of re-modeled BISLEY grip frames and grips.

Someone over at Lee Martin's singleactions.com web site did some cutting and welding to produce a variation of the #5. Ron Power also had a replacement two piece grip frame of this type, but I don't think it set any sales records...try a search here or at singleactions for Big Muddy; he had photos of the one he did on an old model backhawk. Dave Clements and John Gallagher offer their versions, IIRC.

Not to offend, but you could be looking at an expensive project. BUT Differences of opinion is what makes political elections and horse races.

I would do all the work myself or with the help of a friend. I posted this here and on "Single-Actions" and sackpetersen answered with a post with pictures of one just as I described. Thanks I will do a search for "Big Muddy".

Mine came in today, just got home from work. I worked on this maybe six months fabricating parts, then sent it to APW for hard chrome. Grips are mock ups, will be replaced.

This is a fived OM Single Six with Micro sights. Circa 1968, this is a birth year gun for me, my first custom revolver.

Interesting "customized" Single-Six!

I've NEVER seen a barrel band front sight on a OM Single-Six!

It is a very interesting example!

Mine is definitely "Old School"... :D

I like Micro Sights, probably more so because they are vintage rather than practical. Once you've decided on a Micro sight though as you might imagine you have to figure out how to get real tall in the front. Thats a generic revolver band from Numrich, and I notched it to capture the end of the ejector housing on the other side.

I believe my Micro sight is actually the 1911 sight. What you do is you take a bit off the bottom until it slides into that dovetail.
