see thru scope mounting systems

I have a new all weather 10/22. Came with Bushnell scope and stock silver mounting rail. Works great but I want to have the ability to use the iron sights or the scope and switch easily. I have seen the inexpensive "see thru" picitanny rail for about $7 on amazon but I guess you have to remove the sight to see thru. I have also seen the Weaver "see thru mounts" for about $30 that have no rail and mount directly to the receiver.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these systems or have any recommendations?

I have the weaver see through rings on one of my 10/22s and they are pretty big and bulky. They are good if you squirrel hunt or shoot targets at varying ranges and prefer a parallax free option.

Just my opinion but the see thru mounts are BAD. With any sort of decent scope, you should not need to bypass it for short range. All the see thru does is position the scope too high for proper cheekweld and make accurate shooting at any range problematic. If you have trouble finding/aligning a close range target with your scope, either get a better scope or practice mounting the rifle and aquiring the target until it's a natural movement.

The cheapo 3-7 X 20 Tasco rimfire scope on my 10/22 has enough space in the mounting for me to use the irons, with a Weaver T-09 rail. The Ruger supplied rail is too thick to do it. Amazingly good scope for sixteen bucks, with reasonable light.

I have mixed feelings about the see-thru mounts. Generally I want the line of sight as close to the line of bore as I can get it. Many folks like the see-thru on their dear/hog hunting brush guns. I need 1 or the other, not both. YMMV.
A good receiver sight is also an option.

yes, when I first got into 10/22s I thought the see thrus were a great idea.... as i progressed with my shooting I realized that they were problematic... took em off.

I recall a gunsmith buddy many years ago with a box full of trashed, removed see-thrus he was willing to allow anybody freebies.
I understand some folks feel the need to have their iron sights available, but as noted, it makes for a different hold when mounting the gun.
I too prefer the scope mounted as low as I can get it.

With the "see through" mounts, you don't have the field of view that you would have with clean iron sights.... I, like so many others, tried them years ago and found them to be far less than satisfactory. And, as mentioned, the scope position then becomes horribly wrong.

Many folks, especially new shooters, put way too much scope on their rifles, leading to the need to use the iron sights for close range or moving targets. If you properly mount (meaning as low as possible) a 1.5-4.5X or the new Weaver 1-3X (maybe even as high as a 2-7X), you'll find that at the lowest setting, you have no need for iron sights. And, at the highest setting, you have all the magnification you need for everything but SERIOUS paper punching.
