Planning to mount a scope on my 96 22 mag. Would like to hear from other 96 22 mag owners as to what base/rings and scope they used. I will use for varmints 50 - 100 yds. Thanks in advance for your insight.

I used the base that came with the gun ,and a Simmons 22 mag 3/9. I use it on ground hogs mostly .😉

another vote for simmons, I've had good service out of the few I have on Rugers and Marlins, oldest is 40 years old

I started with fixed 4x but prefer 2x-7x or 3x-9x as I get older 😬

can't speak on the mount but agree with above, factory mount is usually best way to go

good luck!

I had one of those years ago, wish I'd kept it. Funny, I was digging around my parts bin the other day and found a set of Williams fire sights in the package I had for it.
They are sweet , always remind me of a Winchester model 88.

Those use the common 10-22 base? If so, numerous choices. Use the lowest height rings that allow the front scope bell to clear the barrel. Fairly simple and straight forward-not rocket science.

mine, NIB, did not come with a base. Bought a 10/22 base but screw holes do not align.
Yes , the 10/22 base is different . If I recall one set of holes line up . There is an aftermarket base available , as I had to buy it for my 96/22 which was used . I will see if I can retrieve the info on it.

Found the info. Weaver To 11 .

Bad pic , but it's a weaver ,to 11. I have an extra I grabbed for any future buys . Possibly ruger may still sell the factory base ?

The little 3/8" base is available from Ruger and most places that carry Weaver stuff. But if you want a hearty base for decent rings, you will want the Weaver TO-11. Good luck finding one. I have been searching for a couple of years off an on. Never pass up an older gun shop that might have old stock still on the rack. Seems production was stopped long ago, and they are very difficult to find. Still scratching my head over who the guy was at Ruger that figured it would be a brilliant idea to change the hole pattern instead of just going with the same as the 10-22's?

If you aren't happy with what you can find, you could make me an offer I couldn't refuse, and I would take the 96 off your hands. :)

In more of my searching (really digging deep) I also found that there are several places including Weaver that list a different base number and say they will fit both 10-22 and 96-22. The photo only shows 4 holes and I know for a fact that those 4 holes WON"T work for the 2 different guns. I won't waste time and money and trust that this information is correct only to add another unused base to my collection.

RMW001---anxiously awaiting your PM! :) I need the 22mag to complete the set of 4 96's.

AJGUNNER - are you serious? If so let me know. Couple weeks ago I was looking online for a 22 Mag revolver, bought a 22 mag revolver w/ interchangeable mag and LR cylinders - not a Ruger but suites my needs, and saw a few 96/22 Mag with high prices up to $1600. IMO I don't think they are worth $1500-$1600 like those but somewhere north of $1000 I'd probably let it go - first would have to see what it would cost to replace with another variety of 22 mag. Anyway went with the Weaver base - looked a little sturdier in the pictures than the Ruger base. Getting the rings next to see if they work with this base before ordering the Vortex 3x7. Any suggestions on rings? Earlier I mentioned "Vortex 2x7" - I was incorrect - it's 3x7. BTW I found the Weaver base online at Gary's Gun Shop - they were easy to work with.
