My best friend always thought that the two of us would be like the two old men in the movie when we got older. It was one of his favorite movies. Sadly we won’t find out as he passed away from cancer a few years ago.
I will have to watch it again soon.

It was a great movie.

One of my Mom’s favorites. She passed last month. I’m thankful she’s not suffering, but miss her terribly.

Yep, I have to agree, one of my all time favorite movies.. and it's even connected to one of. the greatest cartoonist and cartoons ever created Bloom County.
(I just looked up the creator, Berkeley Breathed, and discovered we were born on the same day!)

Great Movie. We took in our great nephew from child protective services. He introduced us to the movies and also to the movie Holes. I think he related to the kids with no parents and everything turniong out alright.

Duval and Caine were great in that movie. They just had each other play off of and it made for wishing you could be there too. I would love to sit on that porch with a shotgun waiting for traveling salesman to show up. Makes me grin ear to ear, just thinking about it. I’ve probably watched it four or five times now. I’ll have to remember to dig it out again, I think I actually have on DVD.

"Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are what a man needs to believe in the most.
That people are basically good, that honor courage and virtue mean everything.
That power and money, money and power mean nothing.
That good always triumphs over evil.
And true love never dies...... you remember that boy,"

What's the connection?
Bloom County was great.

Watch the very beginning and end when the grown up Walter gets the phone call from the sheriff, he's actually become a cartoonist and look at what he is drawing. I never really knew the exact connection but finally looked it up, here is what Wikipedia says:

"Director Tim McCanlies, who was an admirer of cartoonist Berkeley Breathed, wrote requesting work of his to feature in the film.[2] Breathed sent the drawings of a strip called Walter and Jasmine, which is presented as the work of the grown-up Walter, and they also accompany the final credits."

My wife (RIP) wanted to watch it one night, years ago. As normal I had a long day at work and sat down at home to relax and maybe fall asleep. I can't recall if she rented it or it was shown on tv. I don't know anything about the movie except the title. It woke me up, I wanted to watch it. I enjoyed the movie. After that evening and still I don't recall ever seeing a trailer, reviews or adds about the movie.
I call it a sleeper, nothing known before hand and nothing expected when I started watching it but, a good movie worth watching.

I stumbled on Second Hand Lions years ago and have watched it many times since. Later we introduced the "grand-boys" to it and got them their own copy of the movie. I love everything connected with Robert Duvall and Sir Michael Caine and this was another good one made to watch again & again.

I've probably watched not much more than a dozen movies in the last 30 years, but that was one of them. Glad I watched it all. By Y2K I pretty much lost my need or want for "non-participating" type of entertainment. Considering where society has been for the last 20 years, I don't think I've missed much.
