(and possibly 45. I seem to recall that some of the Hunters were marked Super Blackhawk 45 cal, but I could be remembering that wrong, somebody will be along to confirm or correct me)
.44 mag is the standard but the SBH HUnters have also been made in 45 Colt and .41 magnum. There were also some convertables made with a 44-40 cylinder.
But the Maxi's don't say "Super" on the frame, and if you think about it that's the only thing that makes a Super Super. All large frame Ruger's have the "Super" Frame, which technically existed before the Super's came out on the 44 Flattop, and the unfluted cylinder has been used on other models, (Bisley's jump to mind), the "Super" gripframe has shown up on other models also, (the afore mentioned Maxi's along with anything with a brass gripframe).......OK it's "Super" just because it's a Ruger, but you catch my drift.
Correct! Having a grip frame usually used on a SBH, doesn't mean it's a SBH. A SBH will say so on the cylinder frame. If it doesn't -p retty simple - it's not a SBH. :
Just saying...my Max doesn't have a SBH grip frame.

Did you read all my post you coppied TDF? If I thought that the grip made it a Super BlackHawk I would not have said "No it wasn't a Super just had Super grip frame." Right? Just great gun that had the square back grip frame and a longer cylinder and frame.
Poorly worded reply on my part Motex66. I wasn't contradicting you I was agreeing with you and adding additional information for Tuskbuster who asked the original question. It was meant to read as one continuous paragraph. Your sentence and my post combined.
P.S. I really do think the Maxi's are Super. Just wish I had one.
No one mentioned the fact that the Super Blackhawks also have a unique hammer.
Here's a pic of one of the early prototype Super Blackhawks.
That hammer has been used on the Super's since '59 to this day. It also was utilized on the Super Blackhawk Hunter series and the Distributor Special .44-40/.44 mags.
Note that the model S4440 is labeled as a Blackhawk. I believe that was done since there just wasn't room for the word Super...
flatgate
PS Oh, yeah, the .357 maxi's also have Super hammers.
