Ruger RSI 22-250

What are everyone's thoughts on the Ruger RSI 22-250 HAWKEYE???

I like the RSI models.....I like 22-250......but in my opinion they are not a good match. An 18.5 barrel for 22-250? silly in my opinion.

If I were to buy an RSI it would be in a short range/heavy caliber that the RSI style was intended for.

Way, way too short for caliber! Maybe 35 Remington or 358 Winchester.....

Knew a guy in the very early 2000's who bought a Ruger 77 RSI in 22-250 to take out West antelope hunting. I just said, "Is that right?" but inside I was screaming.....What an a%# ! Agree to the above; Nice rifle. Nice cartridge. Bad combination.

Yea I totally agree now I wouldn't mind having a Hawkeye in 22-250

I like the idea of the RSI in 22 250. There are a ton of 223's with even shorter barrels, and the folks that have them, love them. It will be loud. But even with the short barrel the bullets will still be trotting along faster than lesser cartridges with longer barrels. I would suspect, that with some effort on your part it will still make little holes close together out at 300 yards. And it will be a joy to carry. I've had a couple 20" barreled Hornets, 222's, and 223's. They were accurate and handy. If it makes your socks go up and down, get one.

My RSI is in .308 and I’m perfectly happy with it. I’m always amazed at how it groups with cheap Remington ammo. Every rifle has a preference and it’s nice when it’s not the “premium” fodder.

I would like to see Lipsey's have Ruger make a run of their RSI's in 350 Remington Mag and 35 Whelen in SS. Maybe 6mm Remington and 22 Hornet in blue.

Barely and at what cost? Hearing and barrel throat? Maybe bullet stability unless a faster twist is installed?

I have always been a bit of a 35 Remington nut, over the years I have owned over 50 different 35 Rem. firearms. My deer rifle for over 2 decades was my old Remington Model 8. When my eyes got old and I found I couldn't use iron sights anymore I decided I needed a new deer rifle with a scope. For a couple of years I used a Remington Model 600 35 Rem. I thought back to all the deer I had shot and realized they had all been killed with the first shot, follow up shots only damaged more meat.

I already owned a few Ruger No. 1 rifles and decided that I wanted one in 35 Rem. Unfortunately that is a caliber that was never offered by Ruger. I bought a new RSI in 7x57 and sent it off to McGowan's Precision barrels and had it re-barreled. After I got it back I decided that it was just too nice to hunt with if the weather was crappy. So, I bought a used K1-B in 270, sent it off and had it re-barreled with a 25" barrel in 35 Rem. Both barrels have a 1:10 twist. I was surprised by how well the RSI shoots. 5 shots at 100 yds from a rest

More to the story. Shortly after after having those two rifles done I ran across No.3 22 hornet that looked like somebody had been shooting black powder loads and never cleaned the barrel, it was severely pitted. They had also broken both the stock and forearm and repaired them with Gorilla glue. The action was perfect, go figure. I had that new take-off 20" 7x57 barrel. I took the No.3 to a local gunsmith and had him install the 7x57 barrel. Then I contacted Ruger and order a new stock and RSI forearm. Bought hardware from Brownells. So now I have a No. 2 RSI 7x57 with a factory barrel. I figure that will confuse somebody in the future. In this picture the No. 2 has a cut-down stock for the Grandkids.

Great story Jim. Thanks for taking the time. And two great looking rifles. Plus that 35 sure shoots ! Nothing better than a shooter as well as a looker. As ,for the stainless/laminated... I'm too old school. lol
